I can't download the Hohner pianet N to my Nord piano 4

Hi I bought the Nord piano 4 - I was advised on the forum that the Samples in the Archive library including the 'Hohner pianet N' sample could be downloaded on to it - ihave tried 5 times - it asks if I want to convert the file before downloading but when I choose 'yes' - I get the following message
''file extension for the pianet N is not supported in this partition - the file you are trying to download belongs in the sample library partition please use the correct file type and try again
Is there a way round this - some help would be appreciated - the only sounds I am interested in are in the archive library
Thanks
John

Hello John,
the software is right - files with the extension nsmp belong to the sample section, so no need to try a 6th time in the piano memory.
In your earlier thread there was this helpful post:
nord-user-samples-nsmp-samples-f14/nord ... ml#p140197
I hope you‘ll get it.
Cheers from Germany

I can save it in the sample library of the Nord 4 - is there any way of using the patch from there ?

Hi,
maybe, you should look a little into your manual - it should explain rather well how to deal with the two sound engines on your NP4:
What you downloaded, was a sample which fits into the sample engine. It is not a patch, though: It's just the basic sample for what can be configured towards a Pianet program. So, you use an empty program, switch off the piano engine, switch on the sample engine, select your desired sample and configure the rest; then store your configuration into that empty program place. That's basically it. The rest is in the manual.

Thanks for the advice, the manual is a 23-page document - very brief - it doesn't mention anything about the piano engine or sample engine and I haven't got your know how to produce the patch from the sample - can you be of any further help?
Many thanks
John

I just noticed the sample synth section in the manual which allows you to mix some of sample and program sounds but don't understand how it works and there is only a small section about it in the manual - I think, ( if I am correct), all the program sounds are made up of a mixture of the sounds in the sample library, so with the planet N sample in the sample library I can build it into the program sounds to create a hybrid sound

Morning, John,
you seem to be on the right way. One question: Have you bought your nord in a real store, maybe local, with real staff, or did you order it online?
Cheers

The manual says everything you need to know, it's a very quick and easy read. There is an introductory part ("Getting Started") with a quick general review of the intrument, which is meant as a tutorial to go through "live" while trying out things on your Nord, and then the detailed explanations of all the sections of your instrument.
Remember to turn off memory protection!

There is really not much to do about. As I don't have a NP4, you made me download the manual to tell you what to do.
Before, you should get accustomed to the basic wording in the Nord family: A sample is a recorded sound that can be played through the synth engine. Actually, the piano engine is based on samples, too - but of another type: Synth samples and Piano samples are stored in different parts of the memory and can only be used in their belonging engine - which was your initial problem. A program is one sound shaping consisting of the settings of all 3 sections: Piano engine/section, Sample synth engine/section plus Effects section. You can always have both engines on or only one of them or you can split the keyboard to have each engine in another zone (as far as I know) - and will set the level for both of them to define the volume ratio.
1. You already managed to download the sample to the NP4 via the Nord Sound Manager.
2. You switch the sample synth engine on (p. 16) and may set the volume level (for the synth section) up.
3. You select your Pianet N sample as basis for your sound.
4. It doesn't need to be a hybrid sound: Just switch off the piano engine and you have a pure Pianet sound.
5. You play a little around with shaping the sound (p. 16); it will take a moment for you to understand which knob or button does what - but your ear will tell you quickly.
6. Use the effects section to further shape your sound - but can be done later on; if you don't want to do much about that, I'd say: try the amps (p. 18) and reverb (p.19).
7. Store your new program to an empty place (p. 13); if your instrument is totally new, you might need to deselect the memory protection before in the System menu (p. 22).
Hope, this finally helps.

Thanks for all your help Mr Ziegler - I have been creating sounds by mixing the sample library sounds with the program sounds and then using the effects to shape the sounds - I used quite a few of the old RMI sasmples which gave me a more accurate representation of the Hohner pianet sound - I am now trying to layer the Hornsaw with one of the synth string sounds for a song I have in our set - I am not sure if you can layer two sounds from the sample library - but I'll try following your instructions - thanks again for your help much appreciated
