NS3 Channel Output

Post by onzki »

Hi, I’m confused concerning what the manual says about the Channel outputs, Does it mean I have to use both if I like Stereo sound? Example: Output Channel 1 for L, Channel 2 for R, Is my understanding correct? Right we’re only using Output channel 1 to DI to Allen Heath console. However it doesn’t sound as full as compared to when you are listening from headphones (headphones output). Thanks!

Hi-

Yes, that is correct. You need to connect both 1 and 2 to have a stereo signal, which will sound much better as you have found out. Also make sure the input channels on the board are panned hard R and L for best results. Each output is unbalanced and only half of the signal. The headphone jack is a Stereo signal.

In quite a number of amplification situations, you'll have mono on stage. Which will work but isn't the best possible with a Nord piano, a Leslie simulation or some synth effects. Some Nord users at least prefer stereo monitoring for themselves.

So, no doubt, you need two channels for stereo sound. But you need a possibility to forward those two channels separately to either your monitors or the audience, too. That's why DJKeys was talking about panning. If you don't have that, you can keep things simple and set your instrument to mono - there's a button for that. And continue only forwarding one channel.
