Nord Music Stand V2?

Post by AJDom »

I recently bought the Nord Grand and, considering that I’ve got a lot of sheet music and notes that I’d like to have in front of me while I play, really need a music rest for my setup. I’ve been deliberating whether or not to go with the black Nord Music Stand V2; while the width seems like an attractive feature, I’ve gathered that it’s a bit short (not to mention the fact that it always needs to be removed in order for the dust cover to fit). What are users’ impressions of the V2 and/or alternative music rest options?

Best music stand that I've encountered in a portable keyboard. It's expensive, yes, but it's VERY wide and sturdy as a rock: it holds easily big and heavy music books (heavy as, hundreds of pages). What do you mean by "short"? If you mean the depth of the base (where the sheets/books rest), I've never noticed it to be an issue.

Thanks for the feedback, Spider -- very good to know about the sturdiness. When I say “short,” I mean the stand doesn’t appear to be as tall as a standard 8.5 x 11-inch sheet of paper (that is, the top part of a piece of sheet music wouldn’t be supported). Because I use individual sheets of music much more often than full books, I worry about them not being well supported and more easily slipping off.

I have what I assume is the same black music stand on my NS388. It is a little bit short, but it has not been a problem with any sheet music for me. I suppose that if a single sheet of printer paper was sitting on it for a while, the top would maybe start drooping over the back. In general, though, I find it to be a fantastic addition to the keyboard. Extremely sturdy and easy to remove/install. [Note that if the stand for the grand is different, then it is probably wise to ignore everything I said :) ]

There is only one metal music rest and one wooden music rest for the Nord instruments that provide the holes. It's always the same size. Use a piece of cardboard behind if you want your papers being better supported.

I have that music rest but haven't used it yet - I switched to a tablet and a BT foot switch instead. But scanning and editing the most important sheet music will last for the rest of my life.

As you have a Grand, it will be of more use for you, as you won't have the Grand sitting on a second tier and inclined in some way. That's why I sometimes use a music rest that's attached to the piano stand, not to the instrument.

I appreciate the helpful input, both! It sounds like the stand's height hasn’t really proven to be a major issue for tetra (and the easy-to-remove/install feature is good to know since I’ll probably be taking it off the instrument between practice sessions), and in terms of supporting individual sheets, worst case scenario, I can go the route that FZiegler suggests in placing a piece of cardboard behind the music if necessary. Either way, the Music Stand V2 sounds like a sturdy and reliable option that avoids the issue of cluttering floor space with the feet of a third-party music stand. Thanks for your thoughts, everybody.

I have Nord Music Stands for my both my Piano 2 and my C2D, and I never take off the stands when I put the dust covers on. I just tuck the flap of material facing the stand underneath the rest of the cover, and it stays put on the Piano, no problem. Because of the angle on top of the C2D, I weight the dust cover down with headphones so it does not slip. The Grand has a much fatter backside than either of my instruments, so this solution may not work for you, but you could give it a try.
