Questions on Sample Editor Looping

Hi Guys,

I'm interested in creating some nice user samples for Nord Stage 3. I already have a collection of instruments I've sampled and am excited about starting to make some custom user sample files with. A few questions if you guys can help me out, I did try searching before posting these:

- The Nord Sample Editor doesn't seem to recognize and import loop points from imported audio files? I've already spent some nice time looping and would like to use my loop points, but their x-fade looping so far doesn't seem that bad if I'm limited to it. It will save time for any new material I'll loop.

- Does it matter to have stereo files to input or are they getting mixed to mono on import anyways?

- Is the Sample Editor 2 more advanced it seems to have more options compared to version 3 (the extra tabs for setting sample start and alt start)?

Although like you guys have posted it'd be awesome to have true multisamples for velocity splits, round robins, and release samples, I'm excited to work within the limitations and hope to come up with some creative solutions.

Cheers

Hi and welcome to this forum!

I sampled a number of sounds and as far as I know the sample editor does not recognize any loop points from audio files, so you would have to re-loop your audios. They can be stereo or mono, if the audio file is stereo the stereo sound should be preserved in the sample as well. I originally liked version 2 more because of some more detailed looping options but later found that version 3 is also doing good, it’s a bit more automated. You won’t go wrong with any of them I think.

Hope it helps - the best way is to just try by yourself and find out what suits you best

Thank you for the details on the loop points, I just wanted to confirm before making more samples. I'm finding the x-fade loops aren't so bad and you can trim the samples quite a bit to save space on the ends too.

Hello, dialing in since my question is related.

Does any one know which type of X-fade the loop editor does?

I found the answer by trial-and-error and believe it's Equal Gain (linear) crossfade. This is a good choice for pure tones and indeed I get an almost perfect crossfade in this case. On noisy signals, efffect sounds e.t.c. this is not good at all and I wish it was possible to use EqualPower crossfade (and preferably in-between values) too. Its more or less standard these days to have a choice. Since there's also no way to import samples with loop points preserved it's more or less impossible to make good loops for noisy effect sounds on the Nord Waves. That's a disappointment.
