Error code on startup?

Post by wateronsand »

Hi all,

On my Nord Rack, I get the following sequence of information on the display during startup:

2.7 --> E --> rA --> (startup patch number)

I can't find any reference to error codes in the manual. I did find something similar in this thread, but it appears to have died some years ago.

Nothing seems to be amiss, but it would be difficult to test every single feature. Does anyone know what this error code indicates, or if it's even an error message?

Hi,

I don't know the Rack, so forgive me if I ask the obvious, but has it started doing this out of the blue or is it supposed to boot up with that message, whatever that could mean?

You just got the NR used perhaps?

I've had the unit since 1998. When i brought it out of storage last year the ErA message was there from the first boot. I don't remember the message being there before, but it had been away so long my memory may have betrayed me here.

I'm pretty sure 2.7 is the OS version. E I don't know the meaning of, but I don't think it's an error. rA means it's a rack HW.

Mightn't it be that at certain point during the firmware development history they decided to make the unit show it's firmware version at each boot -- similarly to what happens with more recent Nord keyboards?

Ahhh, word - so maybe the E is for the voice Expansion, which this unit has. I'll call this mystery solved, thanks!

When I got it out of storage, it had v1.3beta and still displayed the same startup message. That being such an early version of the firmware, I would imagine that version info has been there pretty consistently. Good theory though!

Then maybe, it's the other way round, namely that they aligned the newer keyboards to what the Lead/Rack had been doing since the beginning! :)

That would be quite possible in fact. To show all those coded values, though, can be misleading because at first it may well seem like it's some sort of error code.
