Play an Extern Sound module?

Post by Ivar77 »

Hi folks,
Is it possible to:
1. play an extern Soundmodule (Roland xv2020) with th E6?
2. And play it simultaniously? (Nord and module)
3. Or let both sounds play with an extern midisequencer? (Roland mc50)
Thanks for suggestions
Ivar

1. Yes. Just get a MIDI cable and run it from the E6 MIDI OUT to the XV2020 MIDI IN.

2. Yes. That's probably what it will do automatically as soon as you connect that cable, assuming those devices are set with their default settings. Note that this is about the extent of the Nord's functionality here. Unlike the Stage series (or even, to some extent, the Electro 5), you cannot do things like split the keyboard between the Nord sound and the Roland sound, or switch to different Nord Programs and automatically have some of those programs play the module and other programs not.

3. Yes. Run a MIDI cable from the MC50 to the XV2020 MIDI IN. Run another MIDI cable from the XV2020 MIDI THRU to the Nord MIDI IN.

If you want to do 2 and 3 simultaneously, you'll need a MIDI Merger so you can plug both devices into the XV2020 MIDI IN.

A MIDI splitter is the oppsite of a merger: Maybe the cables/boxes look the same, but the function isn't.

What you need seems to be something that will receive commands from two sources and forward them together in one - maybe on two different channels. This deserves more than a cable, but an active computing unit. You probably won't get that for 20 EUR. If you look after Midi Solutions Merger V2, you should get what you want. It will get its power from MIDI out.
