Difficulty setting balance on presets

I have an E5d, and had an E3 and have always problems setting L/R balances. I wish Nord used a slide switch here; I have to turn the balance knob to about 10% to get an approximation of trying to attain a softer left hand.

After saving the new balance ratios in the preset, I turn the knob back in the center, but if you touch the knob to make a fine adjustment the balance returns to 50% Why is this one function so disfunctional?

Thanks in advance, Paul.

Well, if you turn the knob back in the center, the balance returns to 50% if you touch it because that's where the knob is. How is that dysfunctional? :wtf: How would you expect it to behave?

You lucky one! On a Stage 3, we even don't have a balance knob - it's all left to external handling (mixer etc.).

But why is your l.h./r.h. handling only accommodated if you set the L/R balance to 10%?

Track, allow me to clarify: With most keyboards, if you want to set the, say, the Left side of a split a bit softer, you turn that keyboard's balance control a bit to the left. On both my Nords, if you want to do this, you have to go way over, like down to a 10% setting or so to even get the volume to slightly drop. It's not linear in operation. I guess there is no way around this issue on a Nord.

You can use the auto-pan effect with speed set to zero. It will then be a panorama control (but only for the one engine).

Edit: I took "balance" to mean "panorama", not volume. Apologies, I misunderstood.

Thanks, analogika, to remind me of that. But probably, I'll have misunderstood something. I don't think there is a balance knob on an Electro 5 in the sense of panorama adjustment, right? It's just the part mix for the two zones theGman was talking about.

In my eyes, a logarithmic style controller is not so bad to fine tune the "balance" of the two sounds. But of course, it's less precise then on the ends of the scale.

.

I find the part mix knob a bit tricky too. At 12 o'clock, both parts are at 50%. If you move it clockwise, the upper part stays at 50% and the lower part goes down in percentage in a linear way. But the decrease in perceived loudness on the lower part doesn't seem to be linear. This makes it difficult to make meaningful changes to the relative mix without turning the knob by a large amount.

You're right of course.

My mistake.

(Also, what grace to thank me for reminding you of something that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject! :thanx: )

I still think they should have made the balance knob an endless encoder instead of a hard dial rotary. I stoppen looking at the display and check the percentages. Just turn the knob until it sounds right :-)
