The gigs are back!

I live in Vero Beach, FL USA which has thankfully been spared from CoVID-19 ravages. We're not a hot spot. Plenty of unused medical capacity, well-behaved citizens and state/local government that wants to open things up.

Here's the good news? We're getting hammered with requests from venue owners, All are outside, including a few that are new to the outside gig thing, We're coaching them a bit on how to do a an outdoors gig.

Our band sort of hunkered down during lockdowns, we got better as a result. There was trust. Any band drama has been subsumed by the prospect of playing solid gigs through the summer.

So, all good. We're locked and loaded to deliver a raging live experience for folks that want to show up. And I think there's a lot of them. If you on't feel safe don't show up.

The rest of us are going to party down!

Fortunate You! Here they aren‘t. I live in the middle of Germany, also not a hotspot of corona, but all events with more than 100 people are off until end of august. I‘ve lost lots of Open Airs with both my rockband and my Schlagerband. Very, very sad :-( I actually get the most applause from the neighbours when playing piano at open doors. Anyway, we‘re getting through this. Stay healthy everybody! Sunny regards.

Yeah, same here in Hamburg, Northern Germany. I've got the odd streaming show lined up, but of the regular commercial gigs in Germany/Netherlands/Switzerland, it doesn't look like anything will be happening until September or so, at the earliest. If that.

Then again, the reason numbers are so low here is because mass events are all shut down, so I'm not complaining…

Stay safe, everybody.

Sweden's quite gig free as well.
Not even rehearsing.
:(

Wow. Our right-wing „it’s all just flu“ conspiracy-theorist Corona-Protesters held up Sweden‘s no-lockdown approach as an example for months.

PLEASE, keep your politics off this board. There are plenty of other sites for that.

Let's see if we keep talking how it affects us without getting into politics.
I really don't care about politics.
But the strategy to limit the spread is very interesting, not least for us musicians.

Sweden hasn't locked down, but told it's citizens to avoid meeting people if it's not necessary, not travel far, not sit close to each other anywhere public, avoid public transportation.
Stores have created distancing floor markings for people to keep distance, put up plastic screens for cashiers to sit behind, etc.
Workplaces where it's possible to work from home are encouraging to do that, which most of us are. (My work place has a parking lot of about 500 cars, which is usually full. Now it's ca 20 cars there.)
I think most people are following the rules and guidelines quite well, but there are exceptions. Some don't care, and some don't understand. As always.

Musically I think it's about 50/50 between those that still rehearse, and those that avoid rehearsing so to avoid spreading.
No gatherings of 50 persons or more are allowed, so all gigs are off.

No politics in this (and as said above, let's not get into politics) - just wanted to give an idea what's going on, as it seems Sweden has been a lot in the world news lately.

My wife and I aren’t pros by a long shot - but we’ve been doing “Hope Shows” from the house every other week since we started quarantining (if that’s the right word). We’re kind of stuck in the 70s and can’t do everything, but we can send out some love and music to our friends over FB live. Not a paying gig but that wasn’t our point. Many of our musician friends who do this for a living have been doing virtual “tip jars” through PayPal or Venmo. We’ve supported like we were buying tickets to shows. It’s something I guess.

Live music just makes the world a better place. I hope soon everyone can be playing out in whatever safe way we need to - those of you who make your living this way must be scratching at the walls! Good luck, health, hope and peace to all!!

No politics, but here in the US there is a wide range in the local government responses to CoVID-19. Every situation is different, so not a bad approach, but there are definitely some weird outliers :)

The barrier island I live on (and am performing on) has not seen a new case since April 27th. The weather is almost tropical: warm, humid and sunny. We have lots of 65+ folks in our fan base, and they say they're tired of being scared. One aged gal I met at take-out said "screw it, I'm going out with style". That's the mood here. It's sort of a bubble.

We also have a summer property near our kids in Plymouth, MA. There the mood there is very different. People wear masks everywhere. Social distancing on the beach is socially enforced by the locals. Hey, if pickleball opens up, we may head north.

My personal conclusion? Outdoor stuff is mostly safe. Indoor stuff, well, you have to look closely. Our band hasn't accepted any indoor gigs for the time being.

Your mileage may vary.

Still no bars open, no gigs here in coastal Northern Californica
