(resolved.. ish...) Nords going back to dealer after issues.

ok folks, I'm officially stressed out, and I mean stressed out.

I mentioned in a thread some time back that I had issues with both my stage 3 and grand, though I love them to bits, I've known about these faults for a while.

Stage 3:
1: Headphone out fails - symptoms: on power up, within a minute of playing, sound cuts from right channel and starts panning hard left then pans back and opens up right channel, cuts right channel dead, tries to generate sound, distorts, after about 6 mins of this happening it slowly brings itself back.
2: monitor in jack (regardless of cables used) is loose internally and distorts / shorts to ground. makes using it as a monitor link feed impossible.
3: Extern is intermittent as in - press, doesn't enable, press, enables but no LED's (sighted person witnessing this), press then normal.
4: display cover to synth / sample area is loose, touch and it moves side to side.

Nord Grand:
1: monitor in jack same as stage 3, loose. creates short to ground.
Random behaviour of piano engine where when loading new sample data, piano section resets when it shouldn't.

OK I confess that I've known about these issues for a little while. Why has it taken to now to act? here's why...

A number of you are aware of my previous stage 3's where damaged in transit here in the UK by crap carriers, etc. With this, previous stage 3's have had damages or faults making them unusable. In that time, I've not been well in my mental state, to the point of a breakdown, yes, I admit it. with that, having these two here since November, I didn't want to let go of them, even with noticeable issues, I was just willing to accept the problems but now as I need to take the stage on the road for new work, etc, I can't afford these problems to get worse.

I've spoken with the dealer, waiting for a call back. have called Sound Tech, really nice chap on the phone, understood what I was going through, waiting on a call from them.

I just don't know what to do anymore, I just feel so tired of all this, I can't cope with this any further. I've enough stress and pain to deal with, without this. To be honest, part of me feels like bailing out of music, it just brings more hassle than I need.

EDIT: As of today (Saturday 1st Feb), replacement arrived in person. taking it as it comes. So, no further to add here...

I know what you're going through, as I had struggles of my own getting my stage 3 to a usable state.

Stick out the rough patch. The music is worth it.

(Or don't. You get to make the call. But I'm hoping you're still here for years to come.)

Sorry, just the way I was feeling. I'm sorting things out with dealer and SoundTech UK. just backed up both machines because they are identical library state and as such they carry tools I'm working on for projects. looks like the stage will have to go in for repair, no chance of replacement, etc. grand will just have to be as is, can't be without both as this is literally my one job / career.

When you get an instrument which you feel is going to cover all your needs ie piano, synth, organ etc and you can create loads brilliant stage patches with splits /combis it is heaven to walk in a venue with one do it all instrument. It becomes however so indispensable. But if you feel you can't rely on it 100%..... the stress. Do you buy another one with replica patches keep it side stage just in case? For my older gear which I can source economically I do just that. 2 Roland pianos, two Roland synths, 2 Tx7s etc. I have an Electro 5HP which so far has been 100% reliable, but I wouldn’t like to pay for a back up just in case! If you are pro the responsibility can be as you say 'more hassle than you need'. If was just playing an occasional pub gig if a keyboard blew I would just make do on a synth.. Come to think of it once a keyboard did go faulty but it could still transmit MIDI so I cabled in a module in one song's time and carried on! Good luck! Andy

Hi Andy,

I used to be of that position, owning a recording studio with synths, samplers, etc where there were backups available. not anymore and I can ill-afford replacement or backup gear, simple as that.

just waiting on people to get back to me with answers or support needed.

Hang in there Lew. As was once quoted by Henry Ford:-

“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.”

You’ll get through this.

Regards

Eric

Gear issues can be SO frustrating, especially when you rely on them professionally. All the best Lew. We're with you 100%, pal.

Hi Lew

Same frustration I had with my new Nord stage 3 compact. Last week the 3rd issue and today I got a whole new Nord Stage 3 compact.
Hope it wil be solved soon for you.
