Hi All,

Just curious what the ideal setup would be to optimally play this type of music assuming that I would be starting from scratch and have no gear.

I would need a great organ sound and strong synth sounds all while permitting the ability to play samples. Having the ability to use a multi-track recorder would also be needed.

Nord Stage 3 (Compact) and you'll nail all your sounds as good as the originals. The effects are dialed in. I haven't played Floyd in years, but -- AFAIK -- it's all there and then some. You might be able to do 90% from the Electro (E4D) which I did back when I played in a Floyd band.

No multi-track recorder on the Nords. Sorry, not sorry. Not quite sure why you'd need one, as you can sample anything and play it back. Including the original, Example? The "Money" sound effects, which I have. Spend some time with the leslie sim, and the late stage distortion drive, and you can do all the swirly stuff no problem.

I used to nail Comfortably Numb. Crowd went wild.

Beyond that, it gets all exotic. Mojo for organs, Vent II for swirl, etc. Not really worth the investment, I believe.

I agree with cphollis. The Electro will get you there. Stage if you have the money and the additional features are worthwhile for you.

well, I play floyd only with the stage 3 88. Without problems. but you need to do lot of self tweaking of sounds. kronos is good in programming, but it lacks real sound of real instruments. they sounds quite "digital"? but then you have those packs without spending a lot of time programming. and to play easily floyd stuff was the reason I bought the Stage 3 88.

Electro, additional controller keyboard of choice and a little synth (I've got a minikorg) will pretty much cover that soundworld.

I don't play Floyd but have been accused of sounding like I do (must be my "if in doubt, more organ" approach.)

NS3 Compact plus yamaha modx 61 should take care of all floyd..

Hi Floyds, I don't know where I found it, but I have a PDF onboard my iPad showing Rick's gear - and I have the feeling that my NE5D plus some samples from the 'hidden' nord synth samples would cover it all.

Electro or Stage, but DO get the Catalinbread Echorec pedal. It’s worth it.
