NS3 - Set List Maker - PrgChange via Quicco BT MIDI

Hi all
Good to be here, and thanks in advance for any help! Firstly I'll describe my setup:
- NS3 latest S/W revision
- Roland A-800 Pro controller keyboard via MIDI
- iPad IOS 12.x
- Set List Maker via Quicco mi.1 MIDI I/O Bluetooth
My MIDI settings on the NS3 are: Global 16 | A 3 | B 1 | Dual 15 | Local is on
Here's my issue:
Whatever I have tried up until now to make the NS3 receive PrgCH messages from Set List Maker has failed. The NS3 refuses to even show an arriving MIDI message. It does when playing keys from the Roland to board B CH 1. My old NSClassic though did this without problems.
Maybe someone in the community has a clue what I may be doing wrong. Btw: The mi.1 has been properly firmware updated via Piano Jukebox, And I tried several different send MIDI channels on the mi.1. It is also registered with the iPad as the active MIDI out.
Thanks in advance
Armin

Hi and welcome to NUF.
Program Changes should be sent on the Global channel, so 16 in your current setup, is that what you are doing?
PS: what are the connections of your setup and what in particular is the Quicco connected to?

Hi maxpiano,
Thanks! THAT was quick! So yes, I'm sending the PCHG on global CH 16. MIDI runs as follows:
iPAD/Set List Maker via Quicco BT to "IN" Roland - Roland via MIDI cable to NS3 "IN" (allowing Roland MIDI through for the Pad), NS3 MIDI "out" connected to Quicco (for powering Quicco)
Hope that is helpful

Welcome !
See this
thread.
I use BandHelper (bigger brother of SetListMaker I think) and have made all possible songs and program-changes available as a selectable midi-command.
You can then attach it to a song in BandHelper/SetListMaker.
There are other ways to do it but for me it's easier this way (don't have to lookup the actual MIDI-codes with a new song/program).
Also you can manage multiple devices with different program-changes that way.
HTH !

I was casually passing by...
It is helpful and that's the configuration I presumed; so on the A800 you have actually set MIDI I/F mode to OFF and activated MIDI Merge with destination 3=MIDI OUT, right?
Have you tried to send something to NS3/A800 using some other iPad MIDI app (e.g. MIDI Wrench) to exclude that the issue is on the Setlist maker setup? Have you tried also to connect the NS to the iPad directly via USB, as a further test?

...previously I had a similar setup using Mainstage instead of the NS3 (with the Roland). I also used an iRig cable MIDI transfer for the pad instead of the BT unit. Worked all fine!

It is also possible then that NS3 is not providing enough power to the Quicco, causing it to malfunction; if you have a MIDI interface on your Mac/Soundcard try to use that to power the Quicco and see if anything changes.

...THAT is a fabulous thought! I have a little 4x1 MIDI merger (which I previously used in my mainstage setup) which provides MIDI power! Also I'll connect it to mainstage to see if any message goes anywhere! What I really feel strange about is that the MIDI activity LED on the NS3 doesn't light up at all with the pad (it does when played from the A-800)

Hi RichardG,
thanks for your help! That is a super MIDI setup file. I've done it similar, but not that way, and I see the advantages in the generic use matrix! My problem is a bit more basic. I can't get the NS3 to receive MIDI PrgCH messages via Bluetooth.

The light blinks only if messages received match any channel the NS is listening to, however it is likely that it is not receiving anything at all from the iPad/Quicco.
PS: have you checked/confirmed the A800 Merge settings are correct? If the test with the 4x1 Merger and Mainstage won't solve the issue, you may try to connect to A800 MIDI IN something different, e.g. the iRig MIDI interface you used before with the iPad, to be sure the problem is on the Quicco and not on the A800.
