Static sound in headphones in NS3

Post by gibbles »

I bought my new Nord Stage 3 last week and I love everything I've been able to do with it so far (not very much yet). I'm a classical pianist looking to branch out into producing and gigging and recording. I bought this: Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone. I bought those headphones two days ago. The sound quality is good but there is static buzzing as more keys are sustained in the piano samples.

I understand there have been some posts about this already. I tried these headphones in my Yamaha NU1 with no static. Apparently it can be the adapter, but I used the one that came with the headphones, and those adapters all look the same. How can you even tell what a "quality" 1/8 to 1/4 adapter is?

The buzzing is quite annoying and it prevents me from being able to practice on this otherwise beauty of an electric piano. Is there anything that can be done?

Static noise or perhaps distortion because you play at high volume? The Nord output is quite hot and could maybe cause distortion in your headphones.

As Baekgaard says + try also with differente headphones (even mobile phones in-ear ones) to see the difference and/or just lower the volume; I have the same headphones and never had a problem on my NS2 but I suggest you check also that the adapter is fully tightened (on mine the original one tends to be quite "hard" in the last part of the thread, so sometimes I prefer to use a generic unthreaded one)
