Faulty 'Song Mode' Button

Hey all,
I just purchased a brand-new Nord Stage 3 a few weeks ago, and was playing with some of the features tonight when I noticed issues with the 'Song Mode' button. In short; I was able to turn song mode on, but was unable to exit song mode by clicking the 'Song Mode' button again, and found myself stuck in Song Mode . I then tried switching to 'Song Edit' mode by holding 'Shift' and pressing 'Song Mode,' which didn't work, which leads me to believe that it is an issue with that specific button. After being stuck in Song Mode for a bit and after clicking the 'Song Mode' button many times, I was finally able to exit Song Mode. Has anyone encountered an issue like this before, and if so, how did you fix it? Is my best bet to send it in for repair?
Also, my Nord Stage 3 is on the latest OS (2.20)

Thanks!

Hi Jakob,

I am your tech support rep. Please feel free to contact me via my regular work contacts to get this issue sorted out. Clearly, based on the symptoms you report, there is a wonky button switch which will need to be replaced. OS updates and factory restore operations will NOT solve this problem, so please don't bother wasting time trying.

bless, pablo

Jakob/Pablo -- just hit the same exact problem (thank god for googling).

Was getting ready for a gig and had manually just put in all my patches for the new Nord stage 3 (upgrading from stage 2). Hit the song button to see what it did and there was no way to get the board out of song mode! It did jump to a live mode but no combination of buttons seemed to get me back to my normal program listing.

However, re-reading Jakob's post about hitting the button multiple times (like 10 or more) I finally got the board back to normal. I just purchased the board, should I work with the re-seller or directly with Nord Rep? Do you think this is a factory defect?

Just a follow up: Sent the Nord back to the seller I purchased it from and the replacement unit that arrived didn't have the same issue. The faulty unit must have just squeaked past quality control. Yay - Nord 3 upgrade complete! :-D

There are a few QC issues knocking around. I've had one 2 weeks back which came with missing dust cover, damage to the right cheek and a failed headphone out where each time you'd power up, start playing, right side of the stereo channel would be weak then start to increase, left side non-existent then comes in, starts panning. this was on the ROYAL GRAND 3D and any other patch. GAK replaced it with a new unit and I am so in love with my Stage 3.

In certain cases, faults are caused by carriers not handling the boxes correctly. I will say this and I need to say this because Nord's packaging does leave a little to be desired here.

When you open a stage 3 box, there's not enough security in it's packaging. take a side cardboard insert which hides the single pedal, the box isn't placed to the bottom flat so it doesn't open, instead it's loose and the cardboard collapses under movement. Placing things like manuals, etc above the keyboard to controllers should actually be placed in the same spot as the pedal, so nothing hits the keyboard. There should be a 4th foam centre piece to spread the protection of the keyboard, also foam shock points to the base and lid to protect against any major impact. What's worse. There should be a warning on each stage or electro / piano / grand, etc box saying "CAUTION: Handle With Care." Also a notice saying "This Way Up." Yes, these go to dealers in pallets, etc but each box should carry these warnings, etc in order that when sent out to customers, that carriers are aware of this. I've gone through it with a carrier who decided to rough handle, then drop a Stage 2-88 in front of me. He was ordered to send it back, refused to, so made him do so as he was being filmed on CCTV, showing him the footage on the phone that he was seen doing this, left in a hurry. called and emailed the supplier with footage. days later I heard he was sacked.

Be warned that sometimes the faults may be due to shipping / handling by carriers and not necessarily the fault of Nord. There have been instances though where contacts due to poor soldering, etc might fail or short, the very rare issue of a PSU Overheat / ground error, etc but these are rare occurrences.. No I'm not a Nord Rep.
