Syncing the Nord Stage 2 EX with an external Midi Clock?

Post by cupboardfarmer »

Hey there!
I'm having a bit of trouble with syncing the master clock of my Nord Stage 2 EX to the Midi Clock sent from Studio One. Basically, I want to be able to record something and have the Arpeggiator/LFO/Delay automatically sync up with the tempo of the song. In theory, it should work fine. As soon as I hit play, the Nord receives the Midi Clock and the master clock adopts the tempo from it. However, while they have the same tempo, there is an audible (and visible, if you look at the blinking of the tap/set button) delay/latency between the Nords Master Clock and the Click of Studio One. Is this an issue with the Nord or the programm? I've tried transfering the Midi Clock both directly from the laptop with an USB-cable as well as with a Midi-Cable via an interface (Presonus Audiobox), so it seems like it's not a problem with the connection. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Would really appreciate if anyone knows how to get rid of this delay, as I'm pretty new to Midi and can't find the problem. Thank you!

Your keyboard is working correctly. Midi does not sync the song position (bar/beat) so while all of the tempo-synced parts of the Nord will play in time with the DAW they won't necessarily start on the actual bar/beat of the DAW. That's just not part of the midi spec. If you are sending the notes from the DAW it will all be in time, if you are hoping to play live and have the effects land on the beats/bars you will have to play with tight timing.
