Been messing about on NS3 most of today, FW update, moving sounds around etc. (about 7 hours powered up) Suddenly heard relay click and all power gone. Replaced power lead - still nothing.. Checked fuse next to power socket (0.125mA Slow Blow : UK 240V) has blown?

Hopefully I can get a replacement locally tomorrow as gig tomorrow night

Seems odd a fuse suddenly blowing like that but makes me realise how dependent we are on simple things! Has anyone else had a similar experience? Hopefully a one off but I will be carrying spares from now on!!

It's really unusual for a fuse to fail during static operation. Like light bulbs (incandescent kind) they nearly always wear out during an "inrush" event (turning on the unit).

An operational failure most often indicates a load fault occurred (e.g., PCB component failure). There's a strong chance something in the Nord failed. I suggest making arrangements to rent a replacement NS3 if that's possible for you in case its something more than just the fuse.

I'm hoping it's just the fuse... let us know how it turns out.

Hi pterm, yes my thoughts exactly :-\ I’m going to try and find fuses locally this morning and will keep fingers crossed...I’ve a couple of ‘reserve’ keyboards (never did sell my Casio PX500S!) one of those ‘might come in handy one day’ moments so will get by one gig if the NS3 turns out faulty. I’ve replaced fuse with same 0.125A and all seems ok? Currently backing up to sound manager (66 minutes!!!) just in case I need to send it for repair... fingers crossed

Fortunately all went well and no more fuse issues. I wonder if it might have just been a momentary voltage surge on mains caused the fuse to blow? Hopefully a one off!

It may have been just a fluke, but if it happens again, or in a different building, something is wrong.

was recently contacted by band on the road with BIG emergency: two Nords (NL4 and NS3) blew fuses at sound check for big festival show. Luckily, they were able to located replacement NL4 and NS3 from local backline outfit. Unluckily, the replacements blew out their fuses as soon as they were powered up! It was bad festival power...

Reading this I think it would be a good idea to look for spare fuses so that you have one when you need it.
Sounds for me that the Nord is bit sensitive to current fluctuation.

I know of stories where stage was 380V and not 240V as needed here... In that situation, it is better to blow a fuse than fry the entire board

Yes, carrying spare fuses can be a good idea, but to put this into perspective, this little story I shared is the ONLY such instance I have encountered in 9+ years of handling Nord Tech Support for all of Canada and the USA. This is NOT common, it is rarer than rare, but it can happen. I was very happy the next day to learn that the two backline instruments blew fuses in exactly the same way -- an indication that this was NOT a Nord problem, but a stage power problem, and that the fuses function as intended to protect the circuitry of the instrument.
