Piano/Clav EQ Settings: A Tale of Two Nords
I recently purchased my first Nord product – a Nord Stage 3 – and I'm already deeply in love with it! With that said, there were a couple twists and turns on my journey towards owning this beast, mostly thanks to Guitar Center's choice to sell me an open-box floor model as a "new" keyboard the first time around. I took that home, found some scratches and dents, and took it back to swap it for an in-box model... and in doing so made some interesting observations.
First, the touch between the two was noticeably different; the first one was a little more abrupt, and may have even been lighter than the second. The first also made more key noise when releasing the keys; this second board is buttery smooth. Honestly, neither touch is notably better, but I just thought it was interesting that they were so different.
Second, and most notably, the piano equalizer module was different between the two keyboards! I've found two versions of the manual that reflect these differences, one with brill/treb/soft and one with the dyno settings. The latter is the one linked from Nord's download page, and they just released their dyno filters, so I think this must be the most recent build of the keyboard. I was a little concerned by the fact that my new one had a 1.x version of the OS on it to start, but that might just be how they ship even the freshest models.
TL;DR, Nord is manufacturing slightly different versions of the Stage 3 under the same name! I haven't seen this noted anywhere else online so it seemed worth mentioning here, even if it doesn't change your life at all.
Cheers!

Since system v. 2.0 they are functionally identical, even if the older version doesn’t have the Dyno filter silkscreen.
I can’t speak to the keyboard feel. I’m very happy with my first-version S3 compact.
There is a tiny hardware version number in one of the bottom corners of the control panel.

Good info for keybed.
Concerning dyno1/dyno2, it seems to be only a presentation update (not functional).
Which version of NS3 do you own?

Re: Piano/Clav EQ Settings: A Tale of Two Nords
The function of Dyno1/Dyno2 has been implemented with OS 2.00. All Nord Stage 3 which have been manufactured before the release date of OS2.00 did not had these two effects printed on the board, that’s why some have the „Piano/Clav“ settings (like my NS3) and the new ones have the Equalizer setting printed. So Dyno1/Dyno2 is a functional update for all Nord Stage 3, and the new printing also presents this while owners of the older versions like me have to remember this

Re: Piano/Clav EQ Settings: A Tale of Two Nords
I recently played a brand new NS3C with the new silkscreen print, and did not notice any difference of the keyboard feel compared to my NS3C which has the old silkscreen print. I did not check the hardware versions of these two though ....analogika wrote: I can’t speak to the keyboard feel. I’m very happy with my first-version S3 compact.
BTW: nice avatar, Analogika

Re: Piano/Clav EQ Settings: A Tale of Two Nords
Looks like I have hardware version 3.0, good to know! It's possible that the differing touch on the other one I had was just because it had been played so much already -- I imagine these guys break in at least a little bit.toniolito wrote:Which version of NS3 do you own?

Re: Piano/Clav EQ Settings: A Tale of Two Nords
Thanks.
Sorry, I was more thinking about model rather than version. I didn't know that a version was printed.
But with your photo, it seems that it is the 88-key model.
I will compare version with mine which I will receipt next weekend.
I just know that there isn't dyno1/dyno2 on it.
