Electro 5 Sad Clavinet

Finally upgraded from NE3 to NE5. Loving it so far except for the lack of Clavinet pick-ups. Even rave reviews mention it as one of the only cons on this board. I agree it lacks the NE3 clav’s depth of tone. One half remedy seems to be layering a sampled clav on top of the one provided, and EQ-ing one or both to breathe some life into it. I’m hoping the kind open-eared Clavia R&D team will fix what wasn’t broken in an upgrade soon.
In the meantime, thanks to the tips, advice and humor on this forum, the learning curve is less steep and more fun.

I agree and hope the same.

E5 should still have all the pickups... there are four possibilities (AC, AD, BC, BD) and there should be 4 clav options in the clav section of the board (models 1-4). What's missing are the EQ options.

Agreed. The clav is definitely the saddest thing on my Electro 5D. I'd love to have the pickups back, but even better would be improved samples. I don't think they have been updated since the Electro 2! I hope the fine folks in Sweden are working on this next.

I think that what is REALLY missing is proper release samples. No version of Nords clav has this. It´s just a poor emulated version that sounds nothing like the real thing.
That poppy, snappy release sound is essential for getting funky!

I’ve been saying this for years. Loved messing around with the Clavinet sound on my electro 4, but I never touch it anymore on the 5. They definitely fixed something that wasn’t broken with the changes to the user interface that (they told me) made it not as ergonomic and practical to continue offering the same level of control over the Clavinet sound. I told them that we users didn’t care if it wasn’t perfectly beautiful in the interface, we just wanted to be able to fully utilize the clav sounds. I ended up creating my own sampler synth patches from some sample library I had on my computer. Even though there are no velocity layers, at least I can get the pick ups and the filters sounding right. :(

So, the Stage 2 has all the options right?

I don't agree that it sounds bad.It may has lost the EQ's but it is still one of the best on the market right now.
