Stage 2 samples and programs compatible with stage 3?
Hi there,
i'm a Nord newbie but very enthousiastic about it. Bought myself an Electro 6HP last week and already considering to exchange it for a Stage 3 HP (so it can replace both my Yamaha CP4 and Roland Jupiter 80)
I have a beginners question: I see that forum users here share a lot of samples and programs made by for the Stage 2 that i could use (for coversongs). Are those stage 2 programs and samples compatible with the stage 3?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

The answer is simple-no))But samples can be converted to NS3 format.
You will have to recreate all patches from scratch.

That's too bad... because there are a lot more programs for the stage 2 then the stage 3 available...

That is kind of to be expected with a machine that’s been on the market for eight years vs. one that’s been available for 18 months...BassJo wrote:That's too bad... because there are a lot more programs for the stage 2 then the stage 3 available...
However, all samples will work fine. They don’t need to be “converted” as such: the Sound Manager will automatically convert them as needed when you load them onto the Stage 3.

Re: Stage 2 samples and programs compatible with stage 3?
I think about buying a second Nordstage... have a Nordstage 2 EX 88 and would buy an extra NS 3 88 for a second place... I didn't understand exactly, what is compatible.... So I have about 15 programs on my Nordstage 2, which are enough for all situations in my band. The programs include the settings for piano, organ, synthi, distribution to the slots, effects and so on and so on... do I understand it right, that this is not covertible to the NS3? So I would have to create this all new "by hand" and cannot copy between the two machines? Or is it at least possible to back up single instruments, like B3-organ, with all settings or electric pianos with all settings (EQ, effects and so on) and to copy to NS3 and there again to combine it into the slots?
Thanks for further help!

Re: Stage 2 samples and programs compatible with stage 3?
I have a Nord Stage 3 coming from Nord Stage 2. Is very simple to pass from one to another.....the pianos and the organs are basically the same , you can convert samples easily....and to create a synth made with NS2 ( made not from samples ) is quite easy and fast. The only suggestion is , if you can , to have BOTH keyboards , the old one and the new one , at least for few days at the same time....This way you can very quickly do "clones"
Other solution could be to do a Bundle on the Nord 2 , sell the Nord 2 , buy the 3 and ask a friend who owns the Nord Stage 2 to borrow you few days , upload your bundle and with both keyboards recreate the programs you need.

Re: Stage 2 samples and programs compatible with stage 3?
You understand this correctly. All those settings need to be transferred by hand for each program. Due to the ability to set soft split points (Überblendung zwischen zwei Regionen) and the very different synth engine, it is often possible to get much better results more easily on the Stage 3, in my experience.uro-frank wrote:I think about buying a second Nordstage... have a Nordstage 2 EX 88 and would buy an extra NS 3 88 for a second place... Piano settings and organ settings are pretty straightforward, though the new piano filters make futzing about with EQ much less necessary in my experience, leaving that for other instruments on the layer.
The only thing that can be transferred are the synth samples themselves (for those programs which actually use samples) — so if, for example, you've sampled the Emulator Shakuhachi for "Sledghammer" (I posted that on these forums somewhere), or the intro to "Leuchtturm", then that will transfer, but you will have to build a new synth program to use it.

Re: Stage 2 samples and programs compatible with stage 3?
Thanks for clearing it up Nord fans.
Too bad though for stage 2 owners that consider an upgrade to Stage 3. It's a lot of work that needs to be done again...
Would it be something Nord could fix?

Re: Stage 2 samples and programs compatible with stage 3?
Only partially, since the actual differences between the two instruments (particularly in the Synth section bit also in the Organ and Piano sections) make the implementation of an automated translation more complicated (i.e. not just a simple parameter mapping) and would not guarantee the result is identical, anyway.BassJo wrote:Thanks for clearing it up Nord fans.

The same applies between NS Classic/EX and NS2, btw, so it should be no news for "seasoned" Nord users.
