Nord Sample Converter - Decode error

Hi,
I have a problem with the Nord Sample Converter:
If I upload a sample directly from my NS2 with the "Nord Sound Manager" to my Macbook, and then try to convert this sample, I get this post from the converter:
"Decode error: Unable to open input file"
If I try to convert the same sample directly (the original, which was not send and played on my NS2) from the Macbook, it works fine.
What is the problem? I don't understand this.
Sorry for my english, I hope you understand my problem.

Convert? Nsmp files cannot be converted to anything else, unfortunately.

Hi Bigmagic,
do you want to convert a .nsmp sample into the new .nsmp3 sample format which is used by the NS3 and NE6 models? If so you have to save the sample file on your computer, open the Nord Sample Converter and drag the file into the Sample Converter window. It then creates a subfolder in the directory of the original .nsmp sample, the folder is called nsmp3. There you will find the converted sample in the .nsmp3 format.
There is no way to convert a sample from a NS2 directly from the sound manager as far as I know. It works the other way around though, if you connect the sound manager to a NS3 and the load a sample in the old .nsmp format into the NS3 with the sound manager it will be converted automatically into the new .nsmp3 format.
Hope this helps to understand the purpose and way of operation of the Nord Sample Converter?
Best regards, Georg

Hi Georg,
I have a NS2 and I bought a NS3 compact. I want to convert .nsmp sample into the new .nsmp3 sample.
I upload my .nsmp from my NS2 to my computer (with Nord Sound Manager). Then I tried to convert this file (uploaded from my NS2 and saved on my computer) from my computer with the "Nord Sample Converter". The Converter creates only an empty subfolder called "nsmp3", there is no file inside. And I get the error message: "Decode error: Unable to open input file" from the "Nord Sample Converter".
But:
If I try to convert the original .nsmp, which was not send back from the NS2, the converter works perfect! I get no error message.
I want to understand, why the .nsmp file (which come back from the NS2) wouldn't convert from the "Nord Sample Converter"?!?
For me it's easier to convert all the exported .nsmp from the NS2, since I search all the "original" files on my computer.
I hope, I write my problem now understandable.

Hi,
I think I got you. Can you post an example of such a file which you uploaded from your NS2, and which does not work? I have a similar setup (NS2-88 and NS3C), but have not tried to upload a sample from the NS2 and then convert into the NS3 so far, so can't tell by my personal experience if that works.

Oh... "that" conversion... I believe you need the latest version of Sound Manager for loading the nsmp into the NS3.

Guys,
after exchanging some PMs with bigmagic in german language (makes some questions a bit easier) and receiving one of the samples he loaded from his NS2 onto his computer I made a test. It's indeed not possible to convert this .nsmp sample with the sample converter, I also get the same error message as described by bigmagic. However, if I load this sample with the Sound Manager into my NS3 the Sound Manager converts it into the new format without any problems and it can be used in the NS3 then.
Seems as if the conversion routine of the Sample Converter and of the Sound Manager are not the same ...
Therefore my advise is to first save all samples from the NS2 on the computer, then connect the Sound Manager to the NS3 and load these samples inclouding the "conversion on the fly" with the Sound Manager into the NS3

Interesting. Perhaps let Clavia have a copy of the file so they can resolve the problem?

Yes that's strange - I made a binary comparison of a sample before I loaded it into the NS2 and the same after I saved it back to my computer from the NS2, there are changers to the file after it has been loaded back from the NS2 as you can see from the screenshot attached - the left one is the sample file before it's been loaded into the NS2, the right one is the file after it has been saved back from the NS2 to my computer. Either NS2 or Sound Manager is making changes to the file content
Looks like the Sound Manager is able to handle this, but the Sample Converter is not ... definietly something which should be reported to Nord, I think I will send an email to Nord's support

They should simply remove the Nord Sample Converter from the download site.
There is no reason anybody should need to use it anymore.
