Ultra portable stand for Nord Leads?

Post by 23skidoo »

Hello all,

I'm looking for an ultra-portable stand for a Nord Lead. I often take the metro/bus and want to be able to carry the Lead and a stand together without being a one-man clown show. It will NOT need (ever) to have a second tier, or support more gear, or whatever. Just the Nord Lead. So lightweight AND compact size are the priority. Second priority would be stability, and everything else takes a back seat. Currently the only stand that seems to meet these requirements the best are the table-type stands such as the Onstage KS7150, but I'm wondering if there are any better ideas, since this one does have a few drawbacks (not ultra-compact, although thin, which is nice, and still heavier than I'd like).

What do you all recommend?

Thanks for the answer. Sadly I I don't find those easy to transport at all, however. They're very clunky, awkwardly shaped, and don't have a carry handle or break down past folding to their narrowest position. The Ultimate Apex stand at least folds into itself for a slim-ish tube to carry easily in a shoulder bag, but it's heavy and they say the quality of the current manufacturing run is pretty shite. I'll keep looking, and still open to other ideas!

The lightest X-stands are the ones made from aluminum. But yeah, still bulky to carry. K&M 18880 might be a bit better in that respect, in that it doesn't get higher when closed for transport. (And for a small, light board like the Lead, you can remove the top crossbar piece, too.)

The lightest and quite portable stand would be something like the invisible stand https://www.mesonline.com/stands/keyboa ... -kb10.html but it is not easy to set up you need to tension it (and on top is not made anymore, but you might be able to get one second hand).

Hm, great ideas, thanks! I like that K&M model, will research that. The invisible stand does seem to fit the bill but if it's too fiddly then might make the whole point of being fast and light moot! I'll also take a look for alu X-stands, hadn't gone down that route but it makes sense. Maybe there's one that collapses a bit more elegantly than the standard type.

I have the K&M 18880 as one of my two stands. It's a great tool, in both the 1- or 2-tier version. Less than 3 kg, can be closed without loosing the fixed height, and I use the top crossbar to fix a small band banner there. If of any interest, I could post fotos. I love this stand particularly when I gig at Stadtfests - open airs at summer in the city where I have to get on foot. Regards and good luck.

Yes please Tasten-Bert, post a photo if you get the chance. Something I like is to have the NS2 at the bottom and the MODX8 on top, but the problem is that the MODX8 is quite deep and so I do not want the 2nd tier to overlap too much over the NS2. I do not think that would be possible with the K&M 18880. At the moment I use 2 "X" stands, probably that will have to do until I find an alternative.

Mr_-G, I'll arrange one or two fotos tomorrow, stay tuned. One question: which NS2 version do you have? Regarding depth and weight.
