Stage 3 Using CTRL PED with DUAL KB

Greetings all,

Pardon me if this has already been covered but I haven't seen it (yet). I have a Keystation 61 controlling Panel B through the Dual Keyboard function on my Nord. I have the Synth assigned to the Dual Kbd Style (although the same thing happens with piano and organ).

My problem is this: I can't seem to assign my control pedal to the volume of the synth when it's being controlled by the external keyboard. I can twist the synth volume knob, but can't assign it to control pedal.

Is there a secret handshake or something that I'm missing to be able to assign the Control Pedal to the synth volume while it's being played from an external keyboard?

This has changed in 1.52 so that may help on your issue.

There is a bug in 1.52 so if your external controller sends out MIDI off messages with velocity 0 you may experience hanging notes. Probably a bug fix will take care of that shortly (?).

I should clarify - the control pedal is attached to the Nord. It doesn't appear that 1.52 changed anything as far as I can tell.

No hanging notes, so that's a good thing.

HI, well when you assign a Panel or a Section to the DualKeyb you are excluding all controls of the NS3, not only the keyboard but including OB, MW etc. so also the CTRL Pedal (meaning what is attached to that input of the NS3); you need to use a control pedal attached to the external keyboard when in DualKeyb mode i.e. an expression pedal or in general any control (knob, slider,...) that can send a MIDI CC#11 from that external keyboard.

Sorry, missed you talked about the synth. The change was that the pedal now works on both manuals/keyboards if you use the organ in 1.5x - but as you say, not the synth.

Yes, Organ Swell pedal is the exception (also on NS2) as it makes sense for dual manual organ playing

Sounds like it might be an dea for a future update. My controller has a MIDI out and a sustain jack but that’s about it. I can control settings on the synth (like turning on the arppegiator or adjusting a filter), but can’t assign a control pedal.

Bummer. I’ll have to look at assigning the level on the controller to CC#11 - thanks for the tip.

As it turns out, Synth Level is CC#43, for those trying to duplicate what I'm doing. Other than that, I have a workaround, other than reaching down to the keyboard and turning the Synth Level knob manually...

Sure, that's the direct control of Synth Volume, CC#11 is Expression (Control Pedal), the full list of CCs recognized by NS is in the manual ;)

Maybe I'm missing something, but if I can't assign the control pedal to the synth level on the Nord, sending a message to adjust the control pedal won't do me much good...
