Reducing Sample Size Editor/ Help

Post by Ivan Jochner »

Hi folk,

Do you happen to know how to reduce a sample size when sampling VST/Hardaware in the Nord Sample Editor?

I did both VST and Hardware sampling and sometimes have got different sizes . What it could be related to ? ( Bit rate etc). And how to reduce the size without loosing quality of sound?

(I basically record not every note when recording WAV file but using 1 note for every 3 semitones)

Many thanks!

Ivan

It depends on how long the samples (or their loops) are.

Why not increase to 4 or 5 semitones, or think more carefully about what note range you really need? If you only use the sample in the middle of the keyboard why not delete some of the samples at the extreme ends of the keyboard.

Sample rate of .nsmp is fixed so you cannot change that; how are you sampling, manually or via an autosampler? Are you (or the autosampler) sure you are not sampling “too much” and/or not using looping properly to reduce the waveform lenght?

Using just my Cubase with 16 bit 44100 sample rate. Looping is deactivated in Nord Sample Editor.

File size is based on two things: How many keys you sample, and how many seconds of data you sample on each key. (Looping can help you get by with fewer seconds of actual sound data.)

Pretty much by definition, reducing size corresponds to lowering sound quality.

LUXURY!

If it didn't fit on a floppy, you hired a session player.
