8" vs 10" Speaker...

Howdy!
I am greatly considering getting a single QSC K8.2. Looking at what else is available, I noticed the K10.2 is only $50 more. I also noticed that many here use the K8.2s and not the 10's. Is there a reason for that other than cost?

Is there a significant difference between the two?
Would a single 8 be able to keep up with a guitar and drummer?

I will only be purchasing one with no plan of another in the future as I always run mono to FOH and like to hear close to what the audience hears.
Thanks in advance.

It's not just cost.

The K8.2 is smaller and lighter. The K8.2 has a wider dispersion angle, which is useful for FOH in smaller venues. Some of us think the K8.2 has a more tightly defined sound.

The K10.2 is larger, of course, and can get down lower a few Hz, but not many. Its sound is more directional, which is useful for monitoring or midsized venues. Which is maybe what you want.

Would a single K8.2 be able to keep up with a drummer and guitarist? It depends on how loud they play. If you're just using it as a personal monitor, I'd think so.

I'll have to listen to them both. Fortunately, Guitar Center is running a 15% off special this weekend. I may go with the 10 for the additional headroom and low end, but will keep the 8 in mind for its size and weight. Thanks for the quick reply. I love this forum.

If you want to use it as a stand alone keyboard amp as well then I think that would be best.
I had the same dilemma choosing between a pair of Yamaha DXR10s or the 8s. Monitor position
ability on the 10 was a deciding factor.

I just purchased a single QSC K8.2. Amazing little speaker. Huge step up for my kc-150. I decided on my 8 because I like the wider dispersion. It seems to be less directional. That was a big problem with my KC. This little guy has a much wider sweet spot. Thanks again for all your help.
