Nord Stage 3 Compact "Keyboard Error Not Calibrated"

Just received my NS3 compact today, and every time I switch it on, it shows the message "Keyboard Error Not Calibrated. Press [EXIT]". There are no obvious signs of a problem so far, outside of the message itself.

On the NS2, IIRC, there was an internal jumper that told it whether there was a 73, 76, or 88 action attached, and if it didn't match the actual action installed, you'd get an error like that. And I think there would be other problems, in terms of some sounds responding properly to velocity or the high trigger point.

So do you think that's a "sending it back" level of problem? Or is there something I can do to fix myself without invalidating the warranty?

Even if it's as simple as the jumper being installed in the wrong place (which may or may not be the problem), if t's brand new, I'd just send it back for another, which presumably would cost you nothing, and then you wouldn't have to worry about accidentally messing anything up by going inside yourself.

Well, if it’s a new NS3 I would not take any actions which require opening the instrument which would affect the warranty. I would either send it back or visit a Nord repair center if there is one close by ...probably call Nord support or the suppprt of your dealer first to check what to do

As far as I know, each keybed has an individual calibration, done on the factory, to ensure the keys are even. This is stored in a chip connected to the keybed. When you boot the NS3, the mainboard reads this calibration data. If it is missing, or somehow corrupt, it fails with this error.

So yes, if you want your keyboard to play completely evenly (i.e. better than the stock Fatar), you need to send it back to have it fixed. But call Nord support first (or the dealer from which you bought it).

Is there a RESET function on the NS3 you can trigger?

A RESET function doesn't really exist -- you could download factory settings anew if you wanted, but it would not help in this case. There is no way I know of to reset or download new calibration curves to the keybed (unless you're Nord, of course). But of course, the dealer or Nord support may have some other ways that I'm not aware of.

Just to round this off, I got a replacement. Gear4Music UK collected the faulty keyboard, and delivered a replacement next day.
