MIDI send when part disabled....

Postby jeredmckenna » 30 Jul 2018, 21:32

hey all. i've search as much as I could but could not find my question answered...

anyway

on Electro 5d, when I have, say, a piano on part lower, then a synth on part upper, the midi data from the organ control area doesn't send (except on a double tap, which is weird, but that's for another discussion)

anyway, it'd be fantastic to have all those organ knobs and faders able to be used for MIDI data control when I'm not using the organ. (to control parameters in my computer, for example)

is there a way to enable MIDI send data from the organ control area even when the organ is not in use?

Thanks all!

UPDATE: So, after some testing, I noticed 2 things:

1) The organ stops/faders WORK even when organ part is disabled, as MIDI controllers. Awesome.

2) The other buttons (rotary speed, organ preset 1,2 etc) send data if pressed twice in a row quickly, and even then, sometimes not. Not that they are broken, but, they are clearly not functioning "normally" when organ part is off.

So, I'm pretty happy to have those faders, but of course the buttons would also be great to have!

When the organ part is off, and you hit one of the buttons, the first button-press just shows the current status without changing it. The second press (if you press quickly, while the controller is still light up) will change the status. It only sends out MIDI data on status change, as far as I know.

I use the Nord E5D to control an external organ module (GSI Gemini). All the Nord controls are mapped to the organ module. In my case I use the lower part which will always transmit on the Global Channel. I don't turn the part off or mute it as I like to see the LEDS lit for things like Percussion and Rotary. So I just turn the part balance knob fully to the right - so you only hear the Upper Part.

Cheers
