Control organ rotor with expression pedal

Hey all -- I just purchased a Yamaha FC7 expression pedal, and am having a devil of a time controlling the rotor speed with the pedal. I've tweaked the system settings to select my FC7 as a latch/rotor pedal with "RotorToggle" as the function, but no luck. I believe I'm following the manual correctly on this, but I'm getting nowhere. I've got to be missing something simple. Anyone have a suggestion?

thanks,
Dave

FC7 is the wrong kind of pedal to plug into the "Rotor Pedal" jack... for that, you need a foot switch or sustain pedal (like a Yamaha FC4 or FC5 for example).

You can use the FC7 in the Control Pedal jack, though, where it can be used for volume or effects, as selected on the front panel with the various CTRLPED buttons.

Are we talking about a stage? IIRC I was able to control the rotor speed indirectly through MIDI. And I don't mean 0/127 as an on/off switch but 0 to 127 as a variable. Should be possible to control this with an expression pedal.

I haven't tried this, but a reading of the Stage 3 documentation leads me to believe that the "morph" function can be applied to leslie rotor speed. Assign morph to your control pedal, and you'd have continuously variable leslie speed.

Oh yes, on the Stage, you can also morph the rotary speed. I hadn't paid attention to the section when I answered, I just saw in the side panel that the OP owned an Electro 5 so I answered based on that. Everything I said still applies, but you can also use the FC7 in the Control Pedal jack to vary the rotary speed continuously.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I need to update my profile to reflect the Stage 2 EX. Appreciate the help!

Doesn’t the Stage support just switching between fast and slow, not controlling the speed dynamically with the control pedal or morph?

Indeed it does, but that is usually controlled either with a button press or via a (sustain-type) on/off pedal, which can be set to either toggle the speed or only remain at the fast speed when you hold the pedal down.

The OP is trying to use a FC-7 pedal, which is more like a continuous type of pedal, more often used to control volume or swell. Using that in the rotor pedal input will probably not work -- but using the morph functions, you can indeed control the speed and get to just about any speed setting by having the pedal (or wheel) morph between slow and fast.

Really? I thought even using morph by wheel or control pedal for rotor speed will just toggle between slow and fast

Nope, the control pedal method gives you continuously variable control. I prefer the more authentic acceleration/deceleration transitions of the footswitch method, but the other can be useful as well.
