Noice when using USB

When I hook up my Nord Piano 3 with USB to my DAW there is severe noice, kind of high pitch jitter, totally quiet when removing the USB connection. How to solve this!?

Are there any other connections between the DAW and the NP3? Directly (as in the NP3 outputs to the DAW inputs) or indirectly (via e.g. a mixer that is connected to both DAW and NP3)?

Is the noise also noticeable in headphones (when connecting them directly to the NP3) and/or in the main outputs when run directly into your active speakers/mixer that should not be connected then to your DAW when testing?

It is not impossible that the DAW can be part of the noise generation, especially if you have a ground loop somehow.

Crappy USB cables and poor sound cards (as in onboard) may contribute to this.

Hi It is only via the usb cable, which comes with Line6 products I bought a USB hubwith external power to solve this but no.. I have RME audiocard,Raydat..not crappy. I run a proffesional studio and do not have this noice anywhere else..groundloop is a possible thing but I doubt.. so this is not common?

/Micke..

Also you can use midi instead of USB to get to your DAW.

Hi Micke,
This is a ground loop problem: Nord sends their audio unbalanced, so audio ground is same ground used by USB. When USB and Audio go between the Nord and a computer the ground paths in the cables between the Nord and are shared, so some of the USB signal contaminates the audio path.

As wired as it may appear, I solved that problem using stereo audio cables between the Nord and the sound card.

I see! Ok, thanks then I know where the problem is. Thanks!

Micke.
