Hello y all

I just found this video on youtube, and i´m impressed by the puch und "pop" of the left hand.


Does anyone know how Ron Reinhardt is doing this? Is he on the forum as well?

The sound is awesome too - never managed to get such a full sound out of my nord.

It seems that sometimes he is even not playing the note. Just hitting the key to get the "clic" sound...

That's the trick, you slap the keys, almost like playing a percussion instrument. I can do it somewhat, but am working to be better. Among many other things that need to improve.

That's indeed a "classic" way of playing Clavinet. It comes easier to approach real Clavinet feel on waterfall keybed equipped Nord Electros.

I have the NS2 and the NS3 sitting here side by side - I'm absolutely not able to recreate these percussive ("non-tonal") slap sounds - no matter how soft or hard, how long or short I hit the keys - what's his secret? Is there any additional percussive sample playing? Any additional key-off sounds?

According to his own youtube comments, he is just using the stage...

Try ligh Twin amp sim or compression.

Another way to emphasize that "tone" is to add a bit of wide-open Wah to the effects chain. No need to move your foot... Just set it it, and forget it. I learned this trick by listening to Jan Hammer's Rhodes tone with Mahavishnu Orchestra. Works great on the Nord clav sound, as well.

If your Stages are weighted keys, the difficulty factor dramatically increases. Waterfall or semiweighted is sort of demanded for this technique. Although I wouldn't be surprised if there's a youtube video out there that proves me wrong.

I use auto-wah, and if you can keep the note short enough, you get that atonal "burp" you're looking for.

Would you mind to get a little bit into detail for the auto-settings - i own a waterfall stage, so that should not be a problem.
