Electro 3 wont send MIDI to Logic Pro
I understand I will get killed for posting this, since it is about two million posts regarding this problem spread over the internet - but I simply cant make it work based on those posts - so you are my last resort norduserforum:
I am trying to make my Electro 3 (3.12) play MIDI-instruments in Logic Pro X.
I have a MIDI-to-USB-cable connected directly to the computer from the keyboard.
-
Logic Pro finds the keyboard, but only recognises it as an output - although a notification pops up when I plug the MIDI-to-USB-cable in: "Changed number of MIDI inputs/outputs - Now 1 input and 2 outputs are available".
But the Audio MIDI Setup on Mac tells me there is no extra in or outs when the cable is plugged in.
In Logic Pro: Preferences/Audio I dont get an option of selecting other than "System Setting" or "Built-in Microphone". Am I supposed to see the MIDI-device here, or have I misunderstood something?
Anyone got a clue how to make Logic Pro and the Electro 3 to communicate?

Re: Electro 3 wont send MIDI to Logic Pro
Why are you checking the Audio preferences in Logic and not the MIDI preferences instead?

Also, ensure that the NE3 is set on MIDI Channel 1

Ah you are right! I went automatically to the Audio-tab since everything I have done before is solved in that tab.
But the settings in the MIDI-tab is only for issues when the keyboard is already communicating with the DAW, and I cant find a cure in there.
How do I set the NE3 to MIDI Channel 1? Do you mean on the keyboard physically, or in the DAW?

I think you would benefit from reading the manual.

Re: Electro 3 wont send MIDI to Logic Pro
That message does not mean that Logic is seeing the keyboard. Logic has zero idea what is connected to the other end of a MIDI Interface — or even whether anything is connected at all. MIDI doesn’t work that way.hauba wrote:Logic Pro finds the keyboard, but only recognises it as an output - although a notification pops up when I plug the MIDI-to-USB-cable in: "Changed number of MIDI inputs/outputs - Now 1 input and 2 outputs are available".
It just means that Logic is seeing the MIDI interface built into the cable.
Make sure you have the “MIDI in” cable connected to the “MIDI out” of the keyboard.
Unless you’ve turned off all MIDI transmission on the keyboard, whatever you play on the Nord should now control Logic’s internal synths or record as MIDI data on an external instrument track.

Re: Electro 3 wont send MIDI to Logic Pro
I read the part you recommended in the manual and the following is done:Mr_-G- wrote:I think you would benefit from reading the manual.
- set the MIDI-channel to "Channel 1".
- turned the Local Control mode to off.
The "MIDI in" cable is now connected to the "MIDI out" on the keyboard. (I assume the "MIDI out" cable is supposed to be inserted in the "MIDI in" on the keyboard then?)analogika wrote: Make sure you have the “MIDI in” cable connected to the “MIDI out” of the keyboard.
Still no results.
The MIDI activity display in Logic says "No In" and "No Out", so I might be overlooking something crucial elsewhere?

Re: Electro 3 wont send MIDI to Logic Pro
Some of those USB MIDI Cables (which brand and model is yours?) swap the IN and OUT, but they should also have activity leds to show if any data is being transmitted/received which should help you to verify the connection is correct (play some notes on NE3 and see if any activity led blinks)
Also, you can use a free app like MIDI Monitor https://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/ to check if data is being received on that USB MIDI interface.

Re: Electro 3 wont send MIDI to Logic Pro
If Logic says “no in” and “no out”, it’s not seeing the MIDI interface.
On my late 2016 MacBook Pro running High Sierra, I occasionally need to plug the MiDi cable in repeatedly before it gets recognised by Logic. Not sure what the issue is.
