Aftertouch on NS3

Post by Bjosko »

How does it work on your model?
I got the HP this time, upgrading from an 88 Classic, but I did not remember that the aftertouch needed so much force to activate? I can use it on a single note, but it are impossible on a chord.

Wondering if that are the nature of the HP keybed, or if it are possible to be adjusted in an OS update?

I can't get mine to work with Morphing on the NS3C. I thought it was my dumbness, but now that you bring it up, maybe it's something a bit more sinister? LOL

The 88 version also requires quite some force in order to engage aftertouch. Let's just say that it doesn't activate easily "by accident" :-) I have an old Roland synth (with synth keys) that also has aftertouch, and it's much lighter. Maybe for that reason I never liked the aftertouch since it was easily activated accidentally.

I'm not much into using aftertouch as an input modality, so my experience is limited and I unfortunately cannot say whether it's lighter or heavier than previous (Nord) keyboards.

In my experience the NS3 is easier to use wrt AT than the NS2.
So I'm more inclined to use it again now.

Also you don't need to push with *every* finger, one will do to trigger the effect.
The following statement is not true. The previous statement is true.

I know ;)
But I think my HP are very hard to push, will compare when I have my old Classic in front of me.

Aftertouch on my Stage 2, and now 2EX (both HA88), has always been so hard that I never use it.

My ns3 compact at is just about right. Not too hard but firm enough to prevent inadvertent triggering.

Granularity is not easy on any keyboard. I use it more for on/off stuff. The control pedal is better for gradual control.

Should have said I have the 88 in both cases.
Always thought the 76 and 88 were similar in keybed only shorter (or longer, depending on where you come from).
But get the impression from this forum that's not true.

I've used aftertouch on my NS2 to control leslie speed thru MIDI on a R3-147 and a Neo Ventilator for years. (Took a couple of extra little toys.) I was thrilled that I might be able to do the same internal with the NS3, but unless there's some trick I haven't learned, the pressure it takes is way too high to be practical..

Never understood why you should have aftertouch on a Nord stage 88 key but not on a lead 4 where it's actually usable, strange priorities......better use an additional sensor for the keys like in the Nord piano 3.
