Nord 5HP Transpose

Post by pauleway »

Wanted to lower the key to a song and went to my manual to find out how to do it. Well the manual isn't very clear for us "Low Tech" guys. It just said hit transpose button and dial wanted (+/-) key/note. It did not say you have to hit the "Shift" button to get to the transpose menu. Didn't want to bother anyone on the forum, so after pulling a lot of hair out, and using some pretty fowl words I finally figured it out, but it was not fun. :wtf: Not every musician or keyboard player is computer/tech-savvy, so I wished they would give specific steps to navigate these damned things!! Just venting, thanks for listening!!

Yeah, you really have to read the entire manual. In this case the section that says you have to hit shift to get the function printed under a given button. Took me a while too but I read the entire manual cover to cover when I got my NS2EX. Went through pretty much every function in a few hours. Well worth the initial time investment.

So, on the Electro 5 you must press Shift-->Transpose-->Rotary knob? That is pathetic. I'm trying out an Electro 5 today and that might be a deal breaker for me. I'm not well versed in all the keys when it comes to soloing and licks. I only know the chords. If Nord dropped the ball on this after coming so far everywhere else, it will be VERY disappointing. It will also tell me they're only interested in the pro market. The Yamaha and Roland people make it SO easy to shift keys!!

Guess we'll see.

You actually have to press:
1.KB-Split/Transpose button
2.Shift-KB-Split/Transpose button
3.Hit KB-Split/Transpose again (to turn off Split)
4.Hold down Shift/Transpose together
5.Dial prefered note/Key with Program/Menu knob for desired note/key :wtf:

I love my 5HP, but it took me some time to figure that one out with no real help from manual. On my Yamaha CP-4 piano all you do is hit the Transpose button and the (+) (-) to get desired key you want to play in! 8-)

Just press and hold the shift, then press transpose and turn the dial.

I am in a band that transposes every song 1 half-step down. In order to use different sounds on my Electro 5D with the band, I need to transpose with every sound change.
Most keyboards I've used in the past allow transposing ONE time, then it stays that way until you change it.
Is there a solution that I'm not aware of?

 Well the best solution is to learn to play in another key.

I could see it being a problem when your main AP board on the bottom transposes easily to the singers flippant last minute key change in the middle of a show but the second tier NE5 organ, not so much.
