To sit or to stand?

To sit or to stand?
It's the age-old question. For a band performance, do you pull up a bench and sit at the keyboard? Or do you raise your rack and stand tall with everyone else but the drummer? Does either position send a message, to the band or to the audience? Do you play better sitting?
In the beginning I stood, then I started sitting at practices, then I got lazy and started sitting at gigs. Now I'm thinking I should get off my a$$ and start standing again. At least I wouldn't have to truck a bench to the gig. One less thing in the growing mound of gear...

Re: To sit or to stand?
I sit on a bar stool. Sometimes I stand, and when i get tired i just rest on the stool..you get the appearance of standing, while still sitting. Plus bars always have one to borrow

Re: To sit or to stand?
Depends on what I'm playing. Synth heavy stuff I stand. Piano, I sit. I really struggle to play piano standing up for some reason.

Sitting...
When I stand and I have to use my pedals, I'm balancing on 1 leg. This will hurt my back in the end of gig.

Re: To sit or to stand?
Mostly standing. Can't really play organ standing up, though, because I'm heavily into dynamics and permanently stand with one-foot on the swell pedal.

I believe a standing position for a keyboard player is not better looking at all, since he or she is stuck to that position. There are the guitarists and vocalists at the front of the stage to do the dancing and walking around.
I like a stage setup with the drums at the back at one side and the keyboard rig at the other side, preferably both elevated

I've tried both but I stand for band playing.
I feel stage presence is diminished when sitting although I'm not exactly stage front. More at the side/back as I do band sound also.
I really don't like playing piano style standing. Sometimes I do a bit of boogie woogie in the band and it doesn't feel right at all.
For solo and Jazz it has to be seated.

Re: To sit or to stand?
I don't have any band experience, but I would be sitting no matter what.
In the end, when your standing, your wrist position is faulty (or you would have to position your hammer action keybed so high there doesn't fit any synth keyboard above it anymore). Remember, you should hang in the keys with the weight of your wrist/forearm, instead of pushing them down from the top.
For me in particular, have a minor paralisys in my right fingers, meaning I can't lift my right pinky and ring finger completely, that little difference in position means a huge difference in what I can or can't play. So sitting it is, I'm not compromising the keyboard skills I'm left with for some mojo or other coolness
