Nord Stage 3 wish list

Hi there -

If the Stage 3 is still undergoing development, I imagine that more than a few of us long-time Stage users would appreciate being permitted to weigh in on what works well and not so well on our Stage 2 and/or earlier models. And so, here's a partial wish list:

* Please move the TRANSPOSE button away from the keyboard. I play with some degree of animation and too frequently and unintentionally accurate this feature - which can be alarming and disruptive.

* I know we're a few years down the road, but it was most disappointing and frustrating to not be able to transfer my Stage 'Classic" synth sounds over to my Stage 2.

* More memory for piano and other downloads is always appreciated, but the install time harkens back to the dark days of dial-up.

* The ancient 2 line 16 (limited) character LCD has got to go!

* Being that many Stage users play in more than one situation, creating sound set lists is a necessary and sorely lacking feature.

* Please bring back the delay tap feature that shows the BPM while tapping.

* There has long been volume discrepancies between the piano, synth and organ sections. Arguably, this could be me - but I'd sure like to get all the sound volumes more consistent.

* I presume that many, if not most Nord Stage users are, like me, working class folk - without sponsorships or financially affluent churches and other institutions to pay the steepish price (+/- $6k US) for our instrument of choice - fine as it is. Just saying.

* Other than these wish list items, what a fine instrument the Stage 2 is! The Piano Library is exceptional; the plethora of nobs, the size, weigh and beauty of this keyboard is - well, beautiful - which is why I'm looking forward to the Stage 3. :-)

Thank you for reading these comments - I hope they are of some value.

I'd like a way to turn on different instruments based on velocity.
I'd also like to have instruments merge as you move up and down the keyboard. Not just one split point. For instance at C1 you get piano, at C2 synth starts kicking in and piano starts fading. At C3 just synth and piano is gone. (as an illustration only).
Yes, setlist would be nice.
For synth samples, same thing with velocity. different samples based on velocity allowing you to merge say two instruments into a single sample, depending on velocity.
I think the power transformer should be external so that say you have 12vdc into the board itself. That way people could move from country to country and just use different adapter instead of setting to different voltage setting. Also reading the Electro complains about transformer hum of internal transform would fix this.
There should be a single "ignore incoming midi" button that could be pressed if using external keyboard into the Nord and you want to temporarily ignore it. Today you would either need to turn down the sound or scroll through a bunch of midi options to ignore which is not realistic in a live performance.

Just a few ideas. With all that said, I still really like my NS2EX.

Really happy with my 2EX but there are a few improvements or changes I'd like to see:

Rotary encoders for the EQ section and the reverb, so that the knobs matched up with the settings in the program.
Ability to route audio to all 4 outputs at the same time
Bigger screen, with the option to display the name of the instrument selected rather than the program - say I'm on A01, I change to the Bright Grand sample but the screen still reads "Italian Grand" which can be confusing occasionally.
Gain control on the monitor input.
Faster download of sounds to the instrument.
Increased polyphony - occasionally I run out of voices with complex patches (though not very often!)
Better mono summing, though I realise this is probably more to do with samples than the board itself.

Or an option in the Menu to disable Transpose. That would be an immediate fix and better for someone like myself, that doesn't touch that button. But now I think of it, it would be a good prank to one of my other Nord playing buddies while their on set break...

I can't see a need for moving or disabling the transpose button. As mentioned several times:  just store in a programme a transpose value of 0, so if you were to press it by mistake the button does nothing.

So I need to put the value of 0 for every preset I use? It just seems easier to put a global option in to disable that silly button all together.

a) Better synth, use A1 synth engine
b) Better keyboard, use NP3 keyboard
c) More memory
d) Better display
e) C2D organ (or better)
f) Improved effects, especially overdrive and amp simulation
g) New Clavinet sample set

I thought it is better to be able to do that now, than having to wait for a new model which might implement your suggestion or not.

In my opinion an instrument thought to be used live must have "seamless transition" among programs .
I do not understand why if they can do it between slot A and slot B they cannot do it among programs.
This the feature I miss more hope they implement it on stage 3 but also on other models ad I think it is a software issue
