Experiences Yamaha FC7 footcontroller i.c.w. NORD 4D

Post by mindrush »

Hello,
For my KORG M1 and KORG 01/W I use a KORG EXP-2 pedal/foot controller, which works fine (0-100% volume range)

When I try to use this pedal for the Nord electro 4D it works partly for the organ (volume possible between 61%-100% range), and all other NORD-modes (piano, E-piano, and sample positions).
I tried different choises (CTRL-pedal types and CTRL-pedal modes) with my KORG EXP-2, but never reached a lower range then 60%.
For piano's it's not a big deal, but the most important thing for me, however, is the Organ/Hammond range.
I have read, that NORD keeps the "standard" Hammond specs (50% minimal volume), but sometimes I wanna start with 30% volume or lower.
There are a couple of articles to change the potmeter inside, but I will not do that action directly if I buy a new one...
In fact, I wanted to buy a Yamaha FC7 footcontroller(has 50K Log potmeter) but cannot find the KORG EXP-2 specs, so its hard to know if the FC7 will work better than the EXP-2.

So my question is:

Any (volume range-) experiences from people with a Yamaha FC7 foot controller in combination with a NORD 4D?

Your Korg pedal has an adjustment available on it which should take you where you want to go...sounds like perhaps it is maladjusted

Hello Pablo, thanks for your answer.
Yes, I have tried output 1 as well as input 1 and changed the variable resistance adjustment, and there was sound, but less hard and no differences when I press the pedal.
If I switch the NORD CTRL panel mode from P-mode to S-mode, it creates maximum sound in 1 input and 2 outputs, but pressing the pedal up or down does not have any difference either; maximum sound.
The only thing what worked (for about 60%-100% volume range) is the (expression) output 2.
I think there is nothing I can do about it, so in that case I keep the pedal for both KORG's.
So I was wondering if other NORD users with a Yamaha FC7 gives the same effect as the KORG EXP-2.
Any suggestions or experiences with the FC7 are welcome; if the FC7 works well for NORD users (about 20%-100% volume range), I'm happy with that and buy the FC7.

Third. The FC-7 is a great pedal. Works like a charm on the Electro.

Thanks everybody,
If the volume range is between ~20%-100% (instead of 60%-100% with the KORG EXP-2) I'm very happy with that!
I'll purchase the yamaha FC7.

Did you try pablo's suggestion of adjusting the offset in the pedal? After doing that, I would try some other pedal model in the menu if the offset still does not resolve it.

Hello Mr_G,
Yeah, I tried all pedal models; the best was the KORG model (61%-100% volume range), the worst was the EV-7 (75%-100% volume range)
I have tried to adjust the pedal offset, but none of the in-and output works good; (see my explanation today 12:33u)
Thanks for your reply.
