Hey Hanon and everybody!

This is shaping up to be a good forum IMO. I see even (the helpful mod) Hanon only has 500+ posts so its new. I just hope it keeps going and regualr posters get to know each other a bit.

I was thinking of posting off topic (retro synths) but find there is no off tgopic area. Maybe thats an idea?

Would be good to have a sticky about the Synth Section and getting to know it, buildsing a sound from scratch if anyone is up for it.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Hi zerozero, and welcome to the forum. I agree it's a good one particularly thanks to Hanon, Johannes and the other knowledgable moderators.

As I am fairly new to keyboard playing (I am a guitar player first) I am exploring how to complement the Nord electro 3 with a second (midi) keyboard and am therefore learning about other synths so a thread on vintage synths is a good idea. There is subforum for that (other gear - see home page of forum)

Here's a first question: I can get a Yamaha csx1 relatively cheap (less tha €100). What do you guys think: cheap gimmick, nice looking midi keyboard (blue goes well with Nord's red?), fun vintage synth with some useful sounds, cheap piece of crap??

Hi,
thanks and I could not agree more in being very happy about people being very active, helpful and kind, including the Mods!!

Regarding an Off-Topic area, as IlPrincipe points out, there is already and "other gear" forum, plus this (where I moved your post) Off-Topic kind of forum. I agree general Synthesis Topics might be of general interest, will see maybe at some point an VA/FM/Synth Technique forum might make sense?? For the moment I think it works OK, with NS specific issues going in the particular forum and more general ones in other areas such as this ones.
In any case, it is always nice to get some proposals for improving further this forum so thanks for the suggestion and keep it coming

@IlPrincipe: The CS1x is a nice little toy, 100 EUR bucks seems reasonable but its not a steal neither. I played the CS2x for a while which is much more flexible in terms of sound programming and voices, but nowadays those Dance/Trance boards (which is what most sounds are about in those keyboards) are quite cheap, though a good starting point for people wanting to learn some basic synth programming.

Hi Shark,
I've owned a cs1x. It had some very remarkable sounds.
For the first couple of days, it was awesome, then the editing limitations, and overall cheap plastickiness
of it took over, but then again, I paid more than $100 for mine.
If you have the space in your studio, for less than $100 it's a good piece.
