Idea: Nord Midi Keyboard

Hi Folks,

Wouldn't it be a nice accessory for the NS2 88, if Nord would sell a midi keyboard that would add as a perfectly fitting second manual?

I could imagine the following characteristics:
- 61 waterfall keyboard
- physical drawbars (thus the leds on the NS2 would represent the actual drawbar settings, whereas the physical ones would come into play as soon as their positions get changed), maybe even two sets of drawbars
- pitch bend and modwheel
- Nord quality built metal chassis
- nice red design
- plug and play integration (just need to connect the NS2 and the second manual via midi, then it should work fine in Dual Keyb mode or for dedicated midi channels

I currently use a M-Audio master keyboard as second manual which is cheap and 100% reliable, but it actually doesn't feel like a real instrument. Too much plastic...
Therefore I would be the first person to buy a high quality NORD second manual for my NS :-)

One could also think the other way round, that mean buying a Nord 88HA or HP keyboard that would add to the NS or Electro SW Keyboards as accessory.

Would do you think?

Cheers,
Rainer

I think you just need to get a better master keyboard than your current one (and paint it in red, if you really care)

More seriously: I don't think such an object would have a large market, thinking about a potential price that Nord would ask for. Unless it would be flexible enough to be used as a generic master too.

I think it wouldn't be economical clever for a small company like Clavia to produce such a keyboard. You should see, they're about 20 (Wikipedia) people and they survive by producing very solid, not very "fancy" keyboards at more or less high prices. A midi controller like the one you describe would be more of a mass product even not-nord-owners would be interested in and Clavia isn't able to produce such a keyboard in a) high numbers and b) at a price point that'd be actually much cheaper than a NE5D (61). They're really better off producing "the whole thing" and leave building midi controllers to the other companys that have factorys the Clavia Factory can't compete. Not all choices come from the musical side.. ;)

Hi

yes, I think I understand your points.

Just to get that right: It's not about the red color. The main advantages should be the good integration with the main instrument (e.g. draw bars) accompanied by superb quality.

Thx, Rainer

Yes, I would be interested in a solid midi keyboard with 16 drawbars that is integrated with NS2. (if the price is right). Right now I use Roland A-300 pro primarily for controlling the second set of drawbars. First set being set on the NS2 itself. But it is a bit akward.

Of course the C2D is the full product if you really want Hammond clonewheel but as far as I can tell, it doesn't have piano or synth.
Hammond SK2 has some "sampled" instruments, however but only has 8 drawbars. You have to push a button to use the same drawbars for each manual.

IMO, yes Clavia is probably going to continue on focus with full featured instruments.

Had that one too for a while (before I had the NE4D).
Was a nice keyboard (not too fancy). But also with some programmable buttons too.
