If it is like the NW2, it is very sad….., not to be able to control each layer independently.
Thanks
Hmmh... the manual says: SUSTPED (Shift+Layer A) activates an attached sustain pedal for the Synth section. Read more on how to configure pedals in the Menus chapter, on page 58.

This would be not good...
Ok, if it is true, I do not understand this. Personally, I need to have each layer (2 organ layer, 2 piano layers and the three synths layers) independent for the sustain.

Thanks

Hi Daniel if you take a look at this video at 1:38, right Hand: Piano + Pad with sustain Pedal, left Hand: Synth Bass without Pedal, Conclusion, it is possible for each layer... :)

I pointed this out in another thread. The manual specifies Section, not Layer. We need an NS4 user to confirm the behavior, but my guess is that per-layer sustain is not supported, as it is the same architecture as the Wave2-

I think we need to have a validation with an NS4 owner.

Thanks again

Not having per-layer synth sustain would be a big fail. Hopefully this early version of the manual has it wrong.

UPDATE: Manual needs to clarify that assignment of the sustain pedal can be on any synth layer independent of the others.

Fully agree, I didn’t test this functionality but it would be a reason for me to wait for an update, before to buy it!

Synth capabilities and comment for sustpedal per layer

Post by MartinJ2EX »

About the Synth Stage 4 vs Stage 3…

Stage 3 could do “Dual Osc Configurations” - so one panel/layer could include a saw + eg square, making juno-like sounds possible with one layer.
With Nord Wave 2 or Stage 4, there are only “Multi Wave”, with octaves apart. Can the pitch be edited to be on the same octave? The manual says that only Unison mode makes “classic dual osc sounds” possible…
This would mean to achieve a Juno-like sound, one would need to use a sample or use two layers…

And about sustain… I really hope that pedal and pstick is >per layer<, or else this would be a dealbreaker for me…
This is what the user manual for NS3 says:

PSTICK AND SUSTPED
PSTICK (Shift + Octave Shift left/down button) turns on pitch stick
functionality for the synth, in which case the Synth sound can be bent 2
semitones up and down, using the pitch stick.
SUSTPED (Shift + Octave Shift right/up button) activates any attached
sustain pedal for the Synth section
. Read more on how to configure an
attached pedal in the Menus chapter, on page 53.

Hopefully it is a reused sentence!

I really feel that if some of us Nord folks
wanna purchase this new flagship & want certain features they're looking for in it to for one to be better then the NS3...
Then wait for the impulsive buyers to purchase the 4... Then they can post on here about likes & dislikes...They will have so many more questions answered to what funtions are good/bad... All good though! We mostly only have talk on our Nords because we love this RED ROCKIN board...
Nord Stage 3 Compact, Roland AX-7 keyboard guitar. Past keyboards and modules. Roland A-70 Controller, Kurzweil K25OORS Sampler, Roland D-50, Korg NSR5 module, Juno 60, Roland 106, Korg Poly 6, Yamaha DX-7, Hammond B-3 with 122 Leslie...
