Re: Electro 7 - let it happen!

Post by Rusty Mike »

For what it’s worth, this is my 1000th post.

Back on topic - I like to think of the original spirit of the Electro as a high quality electro-mechanical emulation (see what I did there :D ). It just seems like a near-perfect example of a bottom board, complimented by a synth of some sort on top. (I only play jazz and big band, so the top board is irrelevant to me)

In that spirit, I’m not interested in pitch bend or modulation controls or stuff that would make it a “Stage Lite”. Instead, some carry through from the Piano 5/6 like the vibrato button would be nice. In addition, the updated organ features from the new Organ 3.

Most important, though, would be a better key action such as the TP110 that we’ve heard good things about in other instruments. And I would hope that whatever Nord does with their keybed customization does not hinder the quality of the action.

So, for me, an evolution of the spirit of the Electro with an improved action, still under 30 lbs. /13.5 kilos would compel me to buy one.

Just for giggles, I also own a YC73. Nice weight, decent action, organ sounds great. But:
  • No high trigger action for the organ
    - Way too much cryptic and unintuitive menu diving. I need the manual every time I want to customize patches or add effects
    - Pianos are far inferior to the Nord pianos. They lack clarity, dynamics and body in the upper register
    - I struggle with the Yamaha EPs as well. Nord Rhodes emulations are much more natural sounding and can be played without effects
    - The extra sounds are fair
    - You get what Yamaha gives you - nowhere near as robust or flexible as the Nord Sample Library
    - The user community support is paltry. The only user forum is run by Yamaha and absolutely nobody besides Blake Angelos contributes. Questions go unanswered because nobody offers any feedback. There is nothing like NUF.
I personally can’t wait to sell it. In the meantime, I need to use it because of the lighter weight compared to my Piano 5. I use the P5 whenever I don’t need to carry it a distance or climb stairs.

Back to the Electro 7 wish and wait list. . .
