Re: Nord grand
Great looking set up man.
How do you like the rubber pad attached to the foot pedals Frank? I haven't attached mine yet.

Re: Nord grand
I purchased the K & M stand through Amazon.
All three reviews were five stars so I took a chance. It's heavier than I anticipated and very sturdy. Absolutely no movement on the carpet. The simple look and design appeals to me personally not to mention the color. As far as the Kawai action: I think I just got use to the Piano 3 so action was never really an issue for me. However, the Grand action does seem closer to that of my acoustic grand. It's smooth and has just the right resistance. More significant for me is the layout of the controls. Much easier to use. Having them on the same plane as the keys was ok but tilting them up is perfect. The sound from the Nord speakers is a pleasant surprise. The sound is not so much like that of a speaker. But more like what is heard from an actual (my) acoustic grand. It's different from what I'm used to and I like it. I do have the mounting brackets but I want to try foam speaker pads before using them.

Re: Nord grand
The rubber pad attached to the pedal assembly is helpful. For me, my heal rests on the pad while using the pedals so my heal tends to keep the pedal assembly from moving.

Re: Nord grand
Can I ask you what the mechanical noise of the action is ? I’ve played the Piano 4 and the noise the keybed made was a real dealbreaker for me. How does the Kawai action compare ?Frank Rose wrote: As far as the Kawai action: I think I just got use to the Piano 3 so action was never really an issue for me. For example, the keybed on a Kawai VPC1 and MP11SE is almost silent. How is the Nord Grand ?
Also, which headphones have you got ?
Thanks !

Re: Nord grand
Since I have not owned (or played) a Piano 4, I'm really not in a position to compare it with the Grand. I did have a Piano 3 and although there were many complaints about that key bed, I did not experience the noise issues other forum members were reporting. I sold the Piano 3 for other reasons. At the same time that I had the Piano 3, I also had (and still have) a Yamaha CP300 and can say the Nord keys seemed to snap back a little quicker compared to those of the Yamaha...kind of like an early Casio I had a long time ago. I went over and played the Grand before ending this reply and at very low volume, I can hear only the notes...no other noises. Hope that helps.

Re: Nord grand
Just remembered you had asked about the headphones. They are Nokia Purity Monster. I purchased them from Amazon some time ago. I see now they are no longer available. Another vendor may still carry them.

Re: Nord grand
I saw somewhere that someone mentioned getting a keyboard cover with their Grand, a black stretch fabric cover. I was just watching a German unboxing video and sure enough, he pulled out a black stretch cover from the Grand box. I'm guessing this was a promotional thing maybe through certain distributors or something. There definitely was not one in my box.

Re: Nord grand
This still needs work, and I'm by far a novice, but here it goes. It's the White Grand but the iPhone recording certainly doesn't do it justice.

Re: Nord grand
This comment has nothing to do with your playing. But... listen to the first two seconds of the video, where you can see the 'pinky' finger let go of the G key. There's a noticable 'thump' noise.musicaldudeist wrote:This still needs work, and I'm by far a novice, but here it goes. It's the White Grand but the iPhone recording certainly doesn't do it justice.
Most people will say I'm nitpicking, but it is typical for plastic keybeds. And the Nord Grand, unfortunately, is not an exception.
Disappointing, especially at this price point.
I have just decided to get a Kawai MP11SE...
