I'm with Fabio on this one. Your statement that "cancellation only occurs if you invert the phase" is not 100% correct. Theoretically, with phase inverted complete cancellation will occur, but in actual practice that doesn't happen. Microvariations in timing will cause microvariations in phase between two identical waveforms; one might consider it "partial invertion" causing "partial cancellation." Fab is right to call this chorusing and, in fact, that is how chorusing is accomplished in the first place, by mixing a signal copy to the main audio output slightly out of phase.

Indeed, if you were to take an identical pair of ANY keyboard/module, program it the same, feed it identical midi data simultaneously and mix the two audio outputs, you will hear the same thing. We live in an imperfect world and that's the way it works. This is sometimes considered a desirable effect and done purposely, but if you want to be from from those kinds of chorused sound artifacts you're best off not doubling tones. Another place this can become quite apparent is with some simple sine wave bass tones in a dual-oscillator synth (ANY synth, not just Nord). Set both oscillators to basically the same thing and play some heavy bass notes. The actual tone will sound MUCH better/stronger/clearer/more forceful/etc. with the OSC MIX panned hard 1 or hard 2, while the dead-center panning of OSC MIX will make that same bass synth sound wimpy and soggy and miserable. This is due to minor cancellation effects from phase differences in the two audio sources -- these are extremely minute differences subject to hardware limitation considerations, but that's the nature of the thing with phase differences...

Have you tried to replicate the defect as I described it?
You will see it is not just the normal chorusing what I am talking about, the difference cannot be considered as a small phase-shift. I'll see if I have time to make and post a MP3 sample...

I find the aftertouch hard to control. only very small difference from 0 - max , i dont know if thats a hardware limitaiton or something that can be tweaked in the OS, but other keyboards I've used with aftertouch were more controllable. Anyone else find this? Most noticable if you assign AT to part of the volume range for a layered instrument.

Have you tried setting the minimum volume level higher, and maximum level lower (narrowing the range of Morph operation)?

Well... after enjoying my Stage 2 for a few weeks now, while I am loving it, I must say that OS 1.40 still has a fair amount of bugs in it. I've noticed a bunch of little quirks sporadically, but the two that come to mind are as follows. Neither of them can I repeatedly reproduce.

1) Sometimes after playing a piano sound, I'll get into a mode where if I just press and release the pedal, I'll get a huge string resonance noise. The noise comes upon releasing the pedal (no noise when pressing it). The noise almost sounds like if you were to bang all the keys with the pedal down so that you have tons of resonance going on, then release the pedal. Sort of that damping noise you'd get from the dampers on the strings. This has happened 2-3 times while not touching the interface, only playing the piano sound. To get out of it, I have to change to a different patch and change back, which fixes it.

2) Twice now, I've gotten the amp sim (playing a synth) where the "synth" light is on, but the sim is clearly not in the chain. Tweaking the EQ has no effect. Even cycling the amp sim on and off does nothing. As above, I had to switch out of the patch and back to get it back in the chain.

While I can't think of anything else, I feel like other little minor things have occurred that have contributed to my general perception of the OS being buggy -- anyone else feel this way or experience either of the above?

I have the same pedal problem. It's happened to me every couple of days since I've owned the unit. Ocassionally, changing the program only helps for a matter of minutes, and I must restart the unit for a semi-permanant cure. As a note, The keyboard is left on with the exception of a couple times a week to bring it to rehearsal.

Yeap -- I'm noticing exactly the same thing on all accounts, and I'm using it in a very similar fashion. I leave it set up and turned on at home most of the week, and also take it to rehearsal about once a week. And yes, I've also noticed that a restart is usually required to get it to really go away (for a few days).

Seems like maybe this is a function of being left on for a long period of time. In some regards this makes me feel a bit better, as I've been worried about what would happen if this occurred in the middle of a set! But, still a problem that should be fixed none-the-less.

I`m not sure, if someone posted - my english is not the best to understand all of the posts - but I noticed a bug (?) in Filter section:

I realized some opads, in which the cutoff (Freq) suddenly switches between 2 positions ( dark to "full bright" ). Even I save a pad ( samp ) with right freq / cutoff postition, I can play it and suddenly the cutoff goes up to full. Someone noticed or do I have a failure in thinking?

Don`t have this bug / failure on stage EX or Electro 3...

Hallo everybody here at Nord Forum, great site for all Nord users!!!
I have a problem with my Stage 2, and the problem is that after installing the leates o.s. wich is 1.40 my expression pedal that is conected to the control pedal input is not sending the expression (volume control) to the external section any more...with the previous software version it worked, and it alwais worked on my olde Nord Stage Classis and EX and it worked on Stage 2 but after the last update i don't have that control any more!!!I konw that I can morf the ctrl. pedal to the ext. section and i get the result but i don't want that...i tried to change the setings in the system menu and put in the function menu the control pedal to work as Ctrl+Volume and it didn't work for the ext.section...i conected the same sound module to my Nord Wave and the same pedal to the wave and it worked normaly... I think that this is a bug that happend in the last update...
Is there someone having the same problem?
