Hi! Does anybody know the settings for the organ-solo of "Stop" by Sam Brown, a very distoted rough organ-sound... Thanks for help!

The solo starts at 3:00 in the 1988 official version.

And it sounds like a standard 888800000 or even 688800000 with fast percussion, no third, and I guess about 1/3 of Rotary Drive. That would be my first try. Almost no reverb.

Cheers from Germany

Hi Bert, greetings from Germany back to you! Thanks for your answer! What do you mean with "1/3 of Rotary Drive"? And in my opinion there is a relatively rough distortion audible. It is not so easy to get this smooth distorsion with the Nordstage-on-board-distortion. Would you do it with the Leslie distortion or with the EQ-distorsion? I use a NEO Instruments Ventilator II as leslie simulation and Lounsberry Pedals TFP-1 Tall & Fat for more "tube sound". I find it difficult to make the Nord Stage 2 sound really similar to a Hammond B3...

I don't think that's a real Hammond, but it's a rather nice sound.

888858000, C3 chorus, no percussion, lots of rotary distortion and a lot of "Room" reverb would be my starting point, played in the upper half of the manual.

Possibly a bit of the upper drawbars for some more of that shrill bite, but I got quite similar bite by adding some high end (and a little low end) with the EQ on my Stage 2. I also like to add some of the "FX" overdrive (by the EQ), since that has a different body from the rotary distortion.

He means that the overdrive/distortion pot on the rotary speaker section should be turned up about 1/3 of the way.
The key to a great Hammond sound on the NS2, IMHO, is a combination of some EQ and BOTH the EQ distortion/overdrive and the Rotary speaker distortion/overdrive.

Hi uro-frank and analogika,

sorry for keeping you waiting - busy as usual before a two weeks holiday starts!

First thing, I wasn‘t aware of the differences in the NS2‘s effects section compared to my NE5. Thanks Chris, that was what I meant. Having played with it and the song Stop right now, I would even set the drive around 5 to 6 out of 10. But that‘s on my „Rotary Drive“ - no idea how to set the Stage.

As far as the drawbars are concerned I still love my 688800000, but analogika‘s 888858000 is not bad either. Percussion could stay off. If it comes to Reverb I would not set it very high - to me the playing in the song sounds a bit like „not lifting the firstly played keys properly before touching the next“, something like Jimmy Smith style or so.

And again I agree with analogika that it’s probably not a Hammond. The sound reminds me a bit of my Roland U20‘s „Rock Organ“ which I had around the 90ies.

Cheers to wherever you are in Germany.

I found a Youtube video of Rein de Jong performing a transcription of the "Stop" solo on an A100.

He looks to be using the Bb preset with 888866664 in the first video and 888877776 with no chorus or percussion which sounds similar to the original, but with the amount of distortion it is hard to tell.

I play this on my NS3 through a Neo Vent using the Jon Lord 88880000 with the Vent drive at 3:00 or 12:00 when using the NS3 internal drive.

Hi superstage, thanks for this to video-clips! Sounds very good!

One question by the way: Can you also send me your complete Neo-Vent settings, 1st level (and perhaps also 2nd level)? I'm still not "completely happy" with the sound of the Neo Vent.

And on the NS3, what EQ settings are you using for the 888800000 setting of the drawbars? This setting sounds very dull to me and definitely needs equalizing...
Kind regards, Frank

Hi Frank,

Here's an A/B comparison I did of the NEO Vent Vs NS3 Leslie Sim. nord-stage-forum-f3/ns3-rotary-speaker- ... neo%20vent

My Vent settings which closely match my B3/122 sound are as follows:

PRIMARY SETTINGS
FAST SPEED : 1:00
BALANCE : 1:00
DRIVE : 9:00 for most sounds and 12:00 - 3:00 for more heavier rock sounds
MIX / DIST LO : 2:00
MIX / DIST HI : 2:00

SECONDARY SETTINGS
SLOW SPEED : 10:00
ACCELLERATION : 12:00
MODE : 5:00
REMOTE : 9:00 (I am using the NEO CU-1 Remote)
LEVEL : 12:00

I use output 3 to send the mono organ sound from my NS3/NS4 to the Vent II and then stereo out into a Hall of Fame reverb set to PLATE with both controls at 10:00. I take the stereo out of the HOF back into the AUX IN on the NS3/NS4 which goes out the main L/R outputs (1+2)

Hope this helps!

Very interesting! Thanks! I don't have an AUX IN on the NS2, I think, but I do it similar, but mix together the channel 1&2 (for the piano-sounds) and the Channel 3 with the mono-organ-sound to the Neo Vent II to the Lounsberry Pedals TFP-1 Tall & Fat to a little mixer and from there I go stereo to the main-mixer. Reverb I get from the main mixer.

Do you use any EQ-parameters of the Nordstage for the organ-sound?
