Nord grand
Re: Nord grand
Just picked up my Nord Grand from Sam Ash in Dallas. It looks great, plays great, feels great and sounds great. I guess it's just plain GREAT!

Re: Nord grand
The Nord Grand hasn't got Kawai's best action like you'll find in the Kawai MP11SE. Not confirmed but apparently, the Nord Grand uses a keybed much akin to the one in the MP7SE...NHL99 wrote:I'm in for the Nord Grand. Kawai is supposed to have the best piano bed. Needs more piano sampled, though, also in 3D XL format.
Simple logic, too, if you think about it. The Kawai MP11SE weighs 34 kilograms, the Nord Grand just over 20. The full wooden keybed in the Kawai MP11SE accounts for the extra weight.
The Nord Grand looks the bizz, though, very cool, I must say. Already like the look of the MP11SE but the NG is something else...

Re: Nord grand
Personally, I like the Grand's action better than the MP11. After only a day of playing the Grand, the action seems more responsive and less sluggish than the MP11 to me. However, everyone interprets differently.

I also agree with above.nordkeys wrote:After only a day of playing the Grand, the action seems more responsive and less sluggish than the MP11 to me.
I've played in music stores on: Nord Grand (RH-N), Kawai CN27 (RHIII - almost the same), MP11 and CA67 (Grand Feel).
I loved action of GF as a wide range of dynamic control and the same action weight pressure on whole lenght of the key but GF also for me was a bit sluggish. RHIII has a little bit heavier weight pressure on the front edge of the key than on the back end of the key but generally is much faster and easier to play and still is very good in dynamic control. RHIII also has a pleasure touch of Ivory imitaion.
IMHO, The best compromise in this case (dynamic control, keys fastness and keys weight pressure) is RM3II action of VPC1.

Report back, Dude! We would like to hear all about your experience with it.
I got an email response back from Steve Escoffery (Piano Teacher) that has a very extensive post on different pianos that he suggests to his students (https://steveescoffery.com/digital-pian ... -teacher/). These are his opinions and should not be read as gospel since we all have our own opinion. I asked him via his contact page if he could supply the down weights of all of the piano's he tested. He did write back that he will work on that in the next few days. It would be great to find one place on the internet that has all of the down weights for the major manufacturer's different pianos (middle C).
I "do" understand that the down weight is only one of the three variables of keybeds (down weight, up weight, and resistance/inertia) but it is better than heavy, light, medium (48 - 54) and OMG heavy! If he updates his post or creates a new post I will be sure to post about it here.
