Re: Please bring back "pending load" mode on the NS3
As I mentioned in another thread, it looks like Yamaha recently solved this on a new instrument: a rotary encoder that clicks when pressed... so scrolling has no effect until you click on the desired selection.

Re: Please bring back "pending load" mode on the NS3
Another vote here to get Pending Load added to the functionality of the NS3. I've been playing the NS2 since it first came out and use Pending Load for every performance. I'm very addicted to it. I've just recently picked up a NS3 and have only been playing with it a bit at home. The Seamless Transition capability is pretty awesome, I will say. But I would still like to have Pending Load. I wonder if it's trickier to implement pending along with seamless? Seems like just a little bit more code would allow for it, but not sure of the technical limitations or if Nord simply has not had time to do it. In the meantime, I'm going to get very familiar with the new Song and Setlist stuff to see if I can work up a way to not be dependent on Pending Load.

Re: Please bring back "pending load" mode on the NS3
I realize this isn't the exact same thing, but if you use an external tablet like an iPad you can use a tool like TouchOSC and get instant access to any program you need.ericL wrote:Another vote here to get Pending Load added to the functionality of the NS3. I did this on my NE5 with an iPad mini so I could change patches directly. I added a simple overhead projector sheet printed with the button numbers on it to make it daylight visible when we play outdoors.
I only implemented 20 patch locations, but it would be simple to fill the entire screen and add page buttons so this solution is easy to scale to hundreds of patches.
It would take a bit more upfront work to code for two panels (Panel A/B) but not difficult, just time to set it up.
Its very liberating not to have to scroll through lists of patches, and in my case I usually work with some pretty basic configurations (piano, organ, Rhodes, etc) so aside from specialty patches I don't have hundreds to wade through and its easy to remember what number is assigned to what config.

Yes, I use that method after reading it on hereanotherscott wrote:
On my NS2, I used the same "20 most common sounds within 2 button presses" approach as the OP. (In fact, I think I was the first on the forum to suggest it!)
but accessing any one of 100 programs quickly is not easy.

Re: Please bring back "pending load" mode on the NS3
Obviously, Nord can't retrofit all your keyboards with a new encoder. But they could set it so that if you turned on the Pending Load feature (i.e. as a System setting), a scrolled-to Program wouldn't load until you hit a button... like the "Monitor/Copy Panel" button which would now double as an "Enter" button (since as it is, that button doesn't do anything unless you hold it while doing something else anyway). (ETA: Alternatively, the solution I originally suggested in the fifth post in this thread.)PScooter63 wrote:As I mentioned in another thread, it looks like Yamaha recently solved this on a new instrument: a rotary encoder that clicks when pressed... so scrolling has no effect until you click on the desired selection.
If you meant what to do if you want to exit without invoking the new sound after all, you could use the Shift/Exit button for that.PScooter63 wrote:(Potential UI trap: how to “get back” to the program/song you’re on, if you decided to edit and save.)
Yes, an iPad provides numerous ways one could fix this, i.e. ways to navigate directly from one patch to another... there are assorted apps that allow you to create various kinds of on-screen buttons which you could label and associate Program Changes with, to go directly to a given patch, TouchOSC would be one. (Maybe you could even upload your template for people to use as a starting point?) (ETA: I see someone did something similar at nord-stage-forum-f3/my-touchosc-layout- ... 19742.html )cgrafx wrote:I realize this isn't the exact same thing, but if you use an external tablet like an iPad you can use a tool like TouchOSC and get instant access to any program you need.

I really like your idea about the overhead projector sheet!

Re: Please bring back "pending load" mode on the NS3
iPad / TouchOSC solution is great but for those like me that want to avoid to add an external equipment just for this, the solution proposed by Nord is to use the Numeric Pad Mode.AlexNagel wrote:
I really miss the 4 A-,B-,C- and D-"BANK" buttons from the NS2 on the NS3 which combined with the 5 "PROGRAM" buttons gave me quick and easy access to 20 (4 x 5) programs (all on one "PAGE") with only 2 buttons pressed (BANK X + PROGRAM Y).
NS3 you can program your favorite 25 programs in a Bank, and enable the Numeric Pad Mode (Menu System page 2)
Then all you have to do is press the Program 1-5 buttons twice !

Re: Please bring back "pending load" mode on the NS3
and a good reason to want to avoid it, especially if your NS3 is a Compact, is that there's no place to put an iPad, or even a small velcro-able stand to hold one. There are possible solutions... put it on the free panel space of your second board if you have one, or use Nord's music stand attachment and put your iPad there (something else to buy and to bring/setup), or get a separate iPad holder to attach to your mic stand (if you also sing)... sometimes none of these are good for someone's setup, though.florence wrote:iPad / TouchOSC solution is great but for those like me that want to avoid to add an external equipment just for this...
That's a great tip. One shortcoming of numeric mode (2-button-access to 25 sounds) vs. the earlier Bank buttons (2-button-access to 20 sounds but also 1-button access to 5 sounds) was that you losing have any quick 1-button access sounds, but if you just think "double-click" you kind of get that back. You just have to think a little differently when you create your set of 25... you want your 5 most core sounds to not be the first 5 as you would have done on the NS2... instead, make your 5 core sounds 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, and 5-5.florence wrote:Then all you have to do is press the Program 1-5 buttons twice !

Re: Please bring back "pending load" mode on the NS3
yes that's right too
on NS3 they decided to increase the main LCD, and as the space is not extensible, they decided to remove some buttons... (program banks)
