Re: Nord Stage 3 - hammond B3 Sound
Hello all,
It's just me, or the NS3 with OS2.52 made some changes on the organ sounds?
I am getting crayzie with this, but to my ears... my patches does not sound the same

Does the organ sound better or worse ?Jo Osantos1 wrote:Hello all,

Re: Nord Stage 3 - hammond B3 Sound
So sorry to read about folks’ Hammond problems w/ the Stage 3 series. I started w/ NE3, bumped up to NE5. I preferred the E3 Hammond sound, but it wasn’t a deal breaker; the E5’s other features seemed to make up for it. Now seriously considering upgrading again to a Stage Compact, I’m put off by the many bugs, issues and, especially, the user reviews of NS3’s lack-luster Hammond. I wonder which might come first: acknowledgment and correction of the problems from Clavia, or a rollout of NS4?
Sad to gain knowledge from someone else’s gear-ache. Sincere thanks to all of you Nord heads for helping me figure things out.

Your reading too much into the negative comments about the SN3 hammond sound and other issues posted here.reedmnweep wrote:So sorry to read about folks’ Hammond problems w/ the Stage 3 series. The number of people experiencing problems are relatively small in comparison to the shipped units. You just get the squeaky wheels posting here. I'm not saying the people having problems aren't real, its just not a good representative sample of the actual defect rate.
Having personally been through the NE2, NE3, NE5, NS3 progression, the Hammonds all sound a little bit different (my personal favorite was the NE2), the NS3 Hammond is just another variant. I do wish Nord hadn't dropped the 9th drawbar percussion options that were present in earlier models, but its a pretty minor issue.
The NS3 has a much better distortion, better chorus emulation and miles more capability than the NE5.
I haven't ever had anybody complain about the sound of my NE3.
I'd highly suggest trying one out for yourself before judging if it would be a good fit for you.

Re: Nord Stage 3 - hammond B3 Sound
It's probably a good idea to test the sound out yourself...
I guess it's fair to say there are different opinions on how it sounds on the newer generations, and personally it works very well for me (I still have also my old NE3, but play the newer generations, which I favour).
I'm also a bit puzzled about reports of changes in the sound when nothing apparently has changed. Off course there could be unpublished updates, but it could also be that our perception of the sound isn't constant over time, and we may all - myself included - be biased.
So it's probably best to test for yourself.

Re: Nord Stage 3 - hammond B3 Sound
I think it is necessary to remain realistic on this subject: If the "Hammond" organ is your main or solo instrument, then you should look for a decent clone (C2D, HX-3, Uhl, Mag, Legend).
On the other hand, the Stage 3 is a fantastic all-rounders that is actually 3 instruments in one.
I do have an UHL X3-2 organ and a Nord Stage 3 Compact. The Nord organ sounds much more " artificial " than the UHL, but not bad at all and in a band context really great (even without external Neo Ventilator).
