Every synth - including any soft synth - has its own tonality.

If you purchased an NL4 because you liked it, there's no reason you should like it less now that the A1 is out.

Not to mention the fact that the prototype first showed at NAMM had three talk fx!

I would have been more than happy with just one. Or something else altogether.

I would be lying if I said I'd rather not have the A1 FX. I like the reverb on the nl4 but that's about it. Even the delay on the nl4 is a joke, it has no modulations, no pingpong, no filtering, no character.

Yes, I'm a bit let down.

To my ears the NLA1 has a warmer sound than the NL4.

I'm not sure if this is due to the effects in the NLA1 or the actual synth engine. Surely I would love to have some of the newer effects the NLA1 has in my NL4 (Rack). Maybe it will warm it up a bit more.

i.e. The NL4 can produce warm Pads & Strings, but I have to coat the sound in lots of long Reverb, and it also takes a bit or careful programming to achieve this. My guess is the NLA1 can accomplish this faster, and easier. I also find it interesting that there are basically very few warm pads programmed into the presets of the NL4 when it ships, I had to program my NL4 (R) for quite some time to produce some warm Pads & Strings. and still feel it can do better if it had the right effects.

What do you think ?

I have no problem with making it sound warm tbh. And I think the NL4 sounds the same if we're talking about the features they share. But yeah the fx make a big difference. Here's a demo of someone who hooked the NL4 up to a strymon:

I think so. The NL4 does sound warm, i have no problem with that either. The effects on the A1 are great, lets hope they add them to the NL4.

@SB-Six: is this a timeline he is using on this demo ?

Bought a NL4 last week, i so enjoyed the nord drum 2 sound i had to try a synth from them. I knew about the A1 and after all i like more freedom from the NL4 to sculpt whatever i have in mind.

But in a price point of view, Nord should make it clear that the NL4 is a step up from the A1, there are too many crossovers between these two synths…
