Yeah Lachy Doley is awesome, and I know with your retro funky chops you'll do the instrument justice too. Still it's the exceptions that prove that those who live in glass houses shouldn't gather moss.

In my eyes someone who finds nicknames for people he doesn't know much should be considered being the prickly one. I really meant I was disgusted. I should have read your very first posts here - would have been clearer to me.

FZiegler, being an Aussie living in the German speaking part of Switzerland, I can understand how him calling you by a nickname without knowing you might seem a bit aggressive. Sure he was having a little dig at you, but I don't think you should read that much into it, it's more common in English than German. And a bit of by-play on the forum, that's not just about samples and spring replacement and midi settings can be a good thing for the community too, as Gambo pointed out.

Count Fosco has a good point. Although FZeigler's English is obviously excellent, the nuances of irony, sarcasm etc in English can be lost on a non native speaker. I highly doubt Gambold intended to be insulting to you. More like, sarcastic, especially in suggesting an alternate 'word' for disgusted....that was clearly sarcasm rather than an in your face insult. I definitely value your insights to this forum.....as I do Gambold's...if reluctantly at times............sarcasm alert.

+ As another example that can be seen above on the page....Count Fosco said something along the line that "People that live in glass houses shouldn't gather moss" That's a mixed aphorism, or saying of 'wisdom' in English. (another example..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it") Except that mixes the words of 2 sayings. The actual saying goes "People that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" Instead of pointing that out, I said "and it wouldn't be a bad idea if they didn't throw stones either" It's not funny when you have to repeat it, but I was giving a gentle poke in the ribs to the esteemed Count Fosco. Not as an insult, a friendly jab, if you will.

I figured the mixed aphorism was intentional and considered replying with a quip about Rolling Stones.

Well, while we're analysing what that tosser CountFosco was on about, I think he might have been going for a three-banger with "the exception that proves the rule" as well as the glass house and moss ones.

Speaking of language, I applaud those non natives whose English is good enough that they can actually still follow this thread... Mine isn't.

The vehemence of the response to my opinion (which is finally all it was) is probably more telling than anything I have to say on the matter of what people should be practicing. Some have been provoked to outright disgust, which is an interesting reaction to a suggestion that playing Hammond is finally a superior way to spend one's time than churning out samples on the back line. Touched a nerve, mebbe?

Someone said I played to old people - ha ha, that's funny, and not totally untrue. My band's usual audiences are locked in the eternal 70s-80s jukebox which never seems to die in the United States sports bar scene, although we've buffered it with modern tunes, Sinatra, some show tunes, and the like. But man, do people want to hear Tom Petty around here! It's not my preferred genre but as a means of staying sane, I've told them - no effects. I'll play piano, EP, and Hammond. If they want a synth-pop machine or a string section, they can hire one.
