Yes, yes they can. However, this is all kind of, well, unacceptable - especially the Wurli upgrades, for which some of us have been waiting quite a long time. And given that the XLs have gotten enormous, a 40MB drop in their flagship sample is kind of a big deal that a lot of people would benefit from. These updated samples didn't just appear this week - they've been around for almost a year.
Yes yes, it is quite strange actually, unless those samples have anything special to justify limiting them to the NP5 (and need for OS update on other models, which doesn't seem to be the case, I haven't tried them yet anyway) I see no reason why they wouldn't add them to the Nord Piano official library yet. Not sure they are around since the issue of NP5 though, they are on version D of the backup and not in previous versions (as the OP reported as well) so they could be relatively recent.

Thank you all for the 40Mb memory save !
Pretty sure this will help many here to test and load other pianos !

Redoing the piano sounds for all versions (Small, Medium, Large and Xl) may require a lot of work.
Maybe Nord has only updated some version of each piano sound and they don't want to publish incomplete sets.
However, there are piano sounds that have only one version like the Wurlitzer 1 and 2.
So they could have published the updated version of these sounds without much effort.
Also the White Grand is the flagship grand.
And I'm quite sure that gaining around 45 MB of storage for the XL version is a huge deal for a lot of people.
It's a pity that Nord does not make the improved version easily accessible for users.
PS : the updated White Grand XL 6.3 sounds great. I haven't noticed a huge difference with the current XL version.

That can't be the reason, as others have said: we are talking about publishing an update (already made) on a webpage, something the person in charge of the website side of things at Clavia would take no more than 15 minutes to do.
I am also wondering if there's something specific to the newer versions that only works for the Piano 5, but this doesn't make much sense neither theoretically nor practically, since some users with boards different than the P5 have already tried and are using the samples.
I would also benefit from 45 MB of free more space... might as well give it a try...

The piano sounds v5.x and v6.x are supported by almost all Nord products. There is nothing special for the Piano 5 in the updated piano sounds.
The only thing special is the synth sample format v4 which is currently only supported by the Piano 5.

Did anyone notice that in that NP5 backup file there is also a Clavinet 6.1 (and Rhodes EPx are 6.1 too and Velvet 6.1 and... all of them not available in Nord Piano Library web pages...) ?
When I have time I want to try them as well...
EDIT: as far as file size is concerned, EPs 6.1 seem to be identical to the 6.0 and also the Clavinet, maybe they just changed some parameters values?

If you ask me... Time to backup old versions: when things change in softwares could well be that some elder files are preferable to someone for one reason or another.
(I have the new velocity curves for the nord grand in mind...)

I have another suggestion : Nord created those new Piano samples to give extra work to @florence. Because, he needs to upload them all to generate the corresponding unique IDs so that they do show up in his Nord Stage Viewer program !
