I spent a few minutes browsing the manual. I'd have a headache as well ...
I think I have gear issues ....

The back connection will work, but is still the wrong connection point for a stereo connection. There is no way of knowing exactly what the mix levels are for the 5.1 left/right back connections. I highly recommend moving them to the normal stereo field inputs. It may or may not make any difference, but I'd start there, before trying to balance out the subs to your mains.
