Re: Transpose button on any Nords?
I use it mainly on blues songs where I'm more comfortable playing blues scales in certain keys over others or where the original song was in some weird key like Fm so the whole band goes down one semitone to make life easy for the guitar player. Though I agree it's a bit complicated to transpose on Nords I got used to it and it really doesn't take long.
The problem I see is that you cannot store the transpose setting in a program so you don' t have to tanspose every time.
Ah yes, one more thing: don't forget to transpose back to 0 for the next song on the list!

Re: Transpose button on any Nords?
I think some of the emotion in this thread stems from the fact that there are several distinct modes of using the transpose function:
1) using it to quickly and flexibly adapt to changing scenarios — like a guest singer, or a half-note drop by the entire band, usually out of consideration for the lead vocalist.
2) using it to transpose songs that are written for specific keys, like "No Woman No Cry" mentioned earlier, or another classic example: Stevie's "Superstition" — that hookline would not even exist if it weren't in Eb minor (it's virtually unplayable in any other key).
3) using it to play every f**** song in C.

Haha.... re 2) and 3) - I played superstition in Em for years and now struggle with it in Ebm; conversely I learnt December 63 in Db and use the transpose button now our band play it in C. Lazy.
Top tip: only use the trans feature if saved in a specific program for a song, otherwise it is way too easy to forget to switch it off at the end of the song and then start the next tune in the wrong key :-/

Thanks for repeating my tip in my post above, but unfortunately this feature does not exist on Nord Electros. Unless I missed it.spradders wrote: Top tip: only use the trans feature if saved in a specific program for a song, otherwise it is way too easy to forget to switch it off at the end of the song and then start the next tune in the wrong key :-/

Re: Transpose button on any Nords?
Hi - I do it on my Nord Stage 2. Just set the transpose then save the Program. When you return to the program the transpose button lights up and the setting is restored. You can also set the transpose amount but turn transpose off then store the program - and then when you are ready during a song (e.g. for a key change) just hit the transpose button and it will go to the value you set previously (i.e. the transpose value is stored regardless of whether the button is on or off).

That's funny.spradders wrote:Haha.... re 2) and 3) - I played superstition in Em for years and now struggle with it in Ebm
It's virtually unplayable in Em — the whole groove of the clav hook is built around just hacking at the black keys. We played it in Em for years until we switched singers and had to go down to the original Ebm key, and it was epiphany for me.
