This thread reminds me of the message received yesterday from a friend testing the V-Stage 88 and absolutely loving it ! I may have an opportunity to buy his Stage 4 88 as it seems he clearly wants to move to the Roland-dark-side
Interesting to have some feedback on the Yamaha kinda-Nord-clones. Apart from the "needed" Melas software to manage this gear (I own a Montage) and the lack of free libraries, I would add that the Nord community here is much more active than this SoundMondo environment. So many support here, free samples/programs, free development of Stage program file viewer application... Not to forget the (free) Nord Sample Editor which, in v4, is so easy to use to create custom Nord samples (eventhough the sample options are quite limited).
I see the overall package when buying a new gear. Doesn't justify the VIP pricing of the Swedish company, but I kind of understand and got used to the "philosophy".

Without question. SoundMondo is mostly people uploading patches. Patches are great if they answer one's specific, personal need, but as we all know, 99.9% of patches do not do that.

I think overall you made a great choice! Time will tell, but the YC is a well thought-out board.
What I did in terms of uprights/character pianos was a custom blend of the Nashville and Upright, EQing each to taste so that they blend in a nice way. That, along with the Steinway and C7, are quite nice. I don't care as much for the Nashville or Upright on their own, but if dialed in just right they make a great combo. The downside is you can't layer anything else at that point (aside from the organ.)
I wish Yamaha would give us the opportunity to remove and replace the samples in the synth and other categories, but they won't. Or, include some flash memory like the Montage and MODX. But of course if that ever happens it will be on a new board, as that is not a firmware addition!

I'll try that! It's not something I'm used to doing, since Electro doesn't have that feature.

No, there is definitely no customization or loading/unloading of Voices (as they call them). That's a great feature of Nord, although it's dependent upon Nord regularly updating their selections...and they've definitely been shirking that promise for some time now. When they released the Stage 4 and then the Piano 6 with the same old White Grand as their lead sample (tacitly admitting that the newer Soft Grand was crapola), the line of shame was crossed.
